Another 90 Degree Day for 2011

The afternoon temperature reached 90 degrees at 12:52pm EDT at Indianapolis.  The total number of days this summer at or above 90 degrees now equals last year's total of 37.  You must go back to the summer of 1988 to find a summer with more 90 degree days.

This will very likely be the last 90 degree for August, but will it be for the year?  For the 30 year period from 1981-2010, the average last 90 degree day was August 29.  Since 2007, only during the summer of 2009 did 90 degree weather end before August 29.  The last day for 90 degree weather in 2007, 2008 and 2010 was October 8, September 3 and September 23 respectively.  The latest 90 degree weather ever recorded at Indianapolis is October 8, 2007.
