Wettest August at the Indianapolis Airport in 23 years

As of 11:00 a.m. EDT the Indianapolis Airport received 1.42 inches of rainfall since midnight...boosting the monthly rainfall total to 6.46 inches.  August 2012 is now the 8th wettest August of record and the wettest since 1989.  This is the wettest month at the airport since April 2011.

There has been a complete reversal of rainfall at the airport during August...going from record dry to near record wet.  The airport has received almost as much of rain in August as it did during the months of April, May, June and July combined.  The airport measured only 6.98 inches of rain during these four months...a record low amount of rain for the April 1 through July 31 period.

As a result of the rain in August...the April 1 through August 31 period is now only the driest since 2007 and the June 1 through August 31 summer period is slightly wetter than last year.
