Updated-Frigid Weather for Early January

Central Indiana saw the coldest weather in 20 years on January 6th and 7th.  For the Indianapolis area...temperatures bottomed out at -15 on the 6th.  That is the coldest temperature seen since January 1994.  The all-time record low for the Indianapolis area is 27 below set on January 19, 1994.

The maximum temperature during the daylight hours on the 6th was 10 below zero with a wind chill as low as 41 degrees below zero.  This rivals the conditions experienced on January 20, 1985 when the maximum temperature was 11 below zero...the coldest daily maximum of record at Indianapolis...with wind chill of around 40 degrees below zero.  The low temperature of 22 degrees below zero that day makes January 20, 1985 one of the coldest days on record at Indianapolis.

The temperature at Indianapolis dropped below zero around 2 am on January 6 and rose above zero shortly after 12:00 pm on the 7th.  The last time the temperature remained below zero longer at Indianapolis was a 48 hour period from January 17-19, 1994.

Continue precautions against frozen water lines.  Do not leave any pets outside while the temperature is near zero.  Normal to above normal temperatures return to the Indianapolis area this weekend.
