Storm Damage from August 19 2009

PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NORTHERN INDIANA
430 PM EDT THU AUG 20 2009 /330 PM CDT THU AUG 20 2009/

...SURVEY OF DAMAGE IN CASS COUNTY INDIANA...

A DAMAGE SURVEY WAS CONDUCTED BY THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN
NORTH WEBSTER IN CASS COUNTY INDIANA EARLIER TODAY. THERE WERE THREE
CONCENTRATED AREAS OF DAMAGE IN THE COUNTY WHICH ARE STATED BELOW.
THE DAMAGE FOUND WAS CONSISTENT WITH STRAIGHT LINE WINDS UP TO 75
MPH.

THE FIRST AREA OF DAMAGE WAS LOCATED SOUTH OF LAKE CICOTT AND WEST
OF GEORGETOWN AT 825 W AND 150 S. A LARGE POLE BARN, 100 FT LONG AND
40 FT WIDE, WAS DESTROYED. DEBRIS WAS BLOWN A MILE TO A MILE AND A
QUARTER AWAY ENDING AT 850 W AND 100 S. THERE WAS NO SIGN OF
ROTATION AND WINDS WERE ESTIMATED AT 70-75 MPH.

THE SECOND AREA OF DAMAGE WAS LOCATED BETWEEN HAYDEN LANE AND WILLOW
WOODS DRIVE JUST NORTH OF US24. MINOR TREE DAMAGE AND SHINGLES WERE
LIFTED FROM SOME ROOFS. THERE WAS NO SIGN OF ROTATION AND WINDS
WERE ESTIMATED AT 60-65 MPH.

THE THIRD AREA OF DAMAGE WAS LOCATED AT 450 E AND 130 N. A DAMAGE
PATH OF 200-250 YARDS LONG AND 75 YARDS WIDE WAS FOUND. ONLY MINOR
STRUCTURAL AND TREE DAMAGE WERE SEEN ALONG THIS PATH. THERE WAS NO
SIGN OF ROTATION AND WINDS WERE ESTIMATED AT 70-75 MPH.
