Hot and Humid Conditions Return This Weekend

Prolonged period of hot and humid conditions possible

A prolonged period of hot and humid conditions will be possible across the Northern Indiana, Southwest Lower Michigan, and Northwest Ohio areas beginning Sunday and extending through the middle of next week. A large ridge of high pressure will build across the Central United States this weekend, and is expected to slowly drift eastward through the Mississippi Valley into the Lower Great Lakes next week. Pictured below are model 500 MB heights and 850 MB temperatures at 12Z Tuesday, July 19.

While the most extreme heat and humidity will remain west and southwest of the region, a prolonged period of heat indices near 100 degrees are possible from Sunday through the middle of next week. If conditions remain dry and cloud cover is limited, high temperatures from Sunday through Tuesday will reach into the lower 90's, and possibily the mid 90's by midweek. Also, temperatures will remain fairly warm throughout the evening and overnight hours, with low temperatures only dropping into the lower 70's Sunday night through Tuesday night, and possibly only dropping into the mid 70's by midweek. While no precipitation is forecast across the area through next week, the area will remain on the edge of the "ring of fire", and any convection or cloud debris from upstream convection could limit temperatures and heat indices from reaching current forecasted levels.
