Heavy Rain & Ice Affect Parts of East Kentucky February 4th & 5th

Low pressure tracking across eastern Kentucky brought a slug of precipitation into the area Tuesday evening and Tuesday night. Most locations south of the Mountain Parkway were warm enough that the precipitation fell as rain. However, along and north of the Mountain Parkway temperatures remained around freezing resulting in quite a bit of ice accumulations in the trees, mainly along the ridge tops and higher elevations. This ice accumulation downed numerous trees and resulted in some power outages.

Rainfall amounts were also heavy, especially in Bluegrass and Gateway Region where over two inches of rain fell. This caused numerous reports of flooding as creeks and streams overflowed their banks.

The following map is a summary of rainfall and ice accumulation reports recieved by NWS Jackson, KY through 2 pm EST Wednesday February 5th...
