Early Season Higher Elevation Snow Event to Start November

A strong upper level disturbance brought moisture and a shot of colder air to the region for Halloween into November 1st behind a strong cold front. The system initially brought rain to the region, but between 8 PM and midnight on Halloween, temperatures dropped and rain began to mix with and change to snow in some areas. Locations of 1500 feet elevation and above received an inch or more of snow as did some locations near the Daniel Boone National Forest. The highest elevations along the Virginia border saw upwards of a half foot of snow, with the heavy wet snow downing trees on Pine and Black Mountains. Many of the deeper valley locations only experienced a brief mix of rain and snow and did not receive any accumulation.
