Middlefork VFD (Powell Co.) Becomes a Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador!

The Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador™ initiative is the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) effort to formally recognize NOAA partners who are improving the nation’s readiness, responsiveness, and overall resilience against extreme weather, water, and climate events.

We congratulate the Middlefork Volunteer Fire Department, located near Slade, KY, for becoming a Weather Ready Nation Ambassador!  Middlefork VFD actively shares weather information throughout the community and members of the department are in the process of establishing the Powell County SKYWARN® Network.  This network of spotters will monitor weather conditions across Powell County and report instances of severe weather to the National Weather Service.  We look forward to partnering with Middlefork Volunteer Fire Department and Powell County SKYWARN® in the future in an effort to make a Weather Ready east Kentucky!

Any organization across all levels of government, businesses large and small, non-profit and non-governmental organizations, and academia can become a Weather Ready Nation Ambassador. The WRN Ambassador initiative is intended for organizations and designed to help serve the public by strengthening our national resilience against extreme weather events.  To find out more, go to http://www.nws.noaa.gov/com/weatherreadynation/ambassadors.html.
