Mother’s Day Severe Weather Outbreak across East Kentucky

A strong, complex storm system moved across the area Sunday morning complete with a widespread severe weather outbreak.  Multiple reports of wind damage and large hail were received by the NWS in Jackson, along with two tornado touchdowns.  The first tornado touched down in Cumberland Falls State Park in Whitley County around 9:15 AM with preliminary max wind speeds estimated to be just over 100 miles per hour. The second tornado touched down 1 mile southeast of Wooton in Leslie county around 10:27 AM. Preliminary max wind speeds with this tornado were estimated to be up to 100 miles per hour.
