AUGUST 2007 WILL NOT ONLY BE REMEMBERED FOR THE EXTENDED HEAT WAVE
THAT BAKED EASTERN KENTUCKY...BUT ALSO FOR THE SHEER VOLUME OF
RECORDS SET OR TIED DURING THE MONTH. THERE WERE A COMBINATION OF 56
DAILY...MONTHLY AND ALL TIME RECORDS SET OR TIED AT LONDON AND
JACKSON LAST MONTH. THE LONDON CORBIN AIRPORT SAW AUGUST 2007 MAKE
36 ENTRIES INTO THE RECORD BOOKS. THE MOST NOTABLE RECORD WAS THE
102 DEGREES READING AT LONDON ON AUGUST 16TH ESTABLISHING A NEW ALL
TIME MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE RECORD. OTHER NOTABLE RECORDS
INCLUDE...LONDON SETTING THE RECORD FOR THE WARMEST AUGUST...AS WELL
AS THE WARMEST MONTH AND WARMEST SUMMER OF ALL TIME. JACKSON TIED
THE RECORD FOR THE ALL TIME MAXIMUM LOW TEMPERATURE. AND LONDON
SMASHING THE RECORD FOR CONSECUTIVE DAYS OF 90 DEGREES OR HIGHER
WITH A RUN OF 20 DAYS IN A ROW....EASILY OUTDISTANCING THE OLD
RECORD OF 13 DAYS FROM AUGUST OF 1993.

NOT SURPRISING...BOTH LONDON AND JACKSON WERE WELL ABOVE NORMAL FOR
THE MONTH OF AUGUST...WITH JACKSON ENDING UP OVER SIX DEGREES ABOVE
NORMAL...AND LONDON AN INCREDIBLE SEVEN DEGREES WARMER. AS STATED
PREVIOUSLY...IT WAS THE WARMEST AUGUST OF ALL TIME AT LONDON...WHILE
JACKSON COULD ONLY MUSTER A NUMBER 2 RANKING LAST MONTH. A COOL DOWN
ON THE LAST TWO DAYS OF AUGUST HAMPERED JACKSON/S CHANCE AT THE TOP
SPOT. MUCH DRIER THAN NORMAL CONDITIONS PERSISTED ACROSS EASTERN
KENTUCKY LAST MONTH AS WELL. THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE FINISHED UP
LAST MONTH AROUND AN INCH AND A HALF BELOW NORMAL...WITH THE LONDON
CORBIN AIRPORT ENDING UP NEARLY THREE INCHES DRIER. IN FACT...AUGUST
2007 WAS THE DRIEST AUGUST OF ALL TIME AT LONDON.

THE END OF AUGUST ALSO MARKED THE END TO METEOROLOGICAL SUMMER.
LONDON ENDED SUMMER WITH AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 76.7
DEGREES...WHICH IS 2.7 DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 74.0 DEGREES. THE
SUMMER OF 2007 SURPASSED THE PREVIOUS RECORD OF 76.3 DEGREES FROM
THE SUMMER OF 1987. JACKSON AVERAGED 75.9 DEGREES...WHICH IS 2.5
DEGREES WARMER THAN THE SUMMER NORMAL OF 73.4 DEGREES. THIS SUMMER
RANKED AS THE FOURTH WARMEST SUMMER AT JACKSON. LONDON RECEIVED 7.70
INCHES OF PRECIPITATION OVER JUNE...JULY AND AUGUST...WHICH IS 4.29
INCHES DRIER THAN THE NORMAL OF 11.99 INCHES. THE JACKSON WEATHER
