September 2006 Wetter and Much Cooler Across Eastern Kentucky

...SEPTEMBER 2006 WETTER AND MUCH COOLER THAN NORMAL...
THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE AND THE LONDON CORBIN AIRPORT FINISHED UP
SEPTEMBER 2006 MUCH COOLER THAN NORMAL. LONDON WAS NEARLY FOUR
DEGREES BELOW NORMAL...AND JACKSON WAS FOUR AND A HALF DEGREES
COOLER. IN FACT...IT WAS THE FOURTH COOLEST SEPTEMBER AT
LONDON...AND JACKSON RECORDED ITS COOLEST SEPTEMBER EVER BY OVER TWO
DEGREES. MUCH WETTER THAN NORMAL CONDITIONS WERE ALSO NOTED FOR
SEPTEMBER 2006 AS WELL. JACKSON WAS OVER TWO AND A HALF INCHES ABOVE
NORMAL...WHILE THE LONDON CORBIN AIRPORT WAS NEARLY FOUR INCHES
WETTER. SEPTEMBER 2006 WAS THE SIXTH WETTEST AT JACKSON...AND THIRD
WETTEST AT LONDON.
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE NEAR JACKSON ENDED SEPTEMBER
2006 WITH AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 63.4 DEGREES...WHICH IS 4.5
DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. THE AVERAGE DAILY HIGH WAS 71.8 DEGREES...AND
THE AVERAGE DAILY LOW WAS 55.1 DEGREES. SEPTEMBER 2006 WAS THE
COOLEST SEPTEMBER ON RECORD. THE PREVIOUS COOLEST SEPTEMBER WAS 65.5
DEGREES FROM 1984 AND 1994. THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURE FOR SEPTEMBER
2006 WAS 82 DEGREES AND OCCURRED ON THE 18TH. THE 82 DEGREES ALSO
REPRESENTS THE LOWEST MONTHLY MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE EVER RECORDED FOR
THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER...BESTING THE 84 DEGREES FROM SEPTEMBER OF
1996. OBVIOUSLY NO DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURE RECORDS WERE SET OR TIED
LAST MONTH. THE LOWEST TEMPERATURE FROM LAST MONTH WAS 39
DEGREES...WHICH HAPPENED ON THE 21ST AND ALSO SET A DAILY LOW
TEMPERATURE RECORD FOR THAT DAY. NO OTHER LOW TEMPERATURE RECORDS
WERE SET OR TIED. FOUR MINIMUM HIGH TEMPERATURE RECORDS WERE
ESTABLISHED DURING SEPTEMBER 2006. 66 DEGREES ON THE FIRST...65
DEGREES ON THE SECOND...69 DEGREES ON THE THIRD AND 55 DEGREES ON
THE 20TH ALL WENT INTO THE RECORD BOOKS AS NEW MINIMUM HIGH
BENCHMARKS FOR THEIR RESPECTIVE DATES.
THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE RECEIVED 6.39 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION IN
SEPTEMBER 2006...WHICH IS 2.62 INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 3.77
INCHES. LAST MONTH WAS ONLY THE SECOND MONTH WITH ABOVE NORMAL
PRECIPITATION SINCE FEBRUARY 2006. THERE WERE 14 DAYS WHEN A
HUNDREDTH OF AN INCH OR MORE OF PRECIPITATION WAS RECORDED...AND 11
DAYS WHEN A TENTH OF AN INCH OR MORE FELL. THERE WERE 5 DAYS WHEN AT
LEAST A HALF AN INCH OF RAIN WAS RECEIVED...AND 1 DAY WHEN AT LEAST
AN INCH FELL. THE DAY OF THE 23RD NETTED 1.80 INCHES OF RAIN...WHICH
WAS THE MOST RAINFALL LOGGED IN A SINGLE DAY LAST MONTH. THE

THUNDER WAS HEARD 6 DAYS LAST MONTH AT THE JACKSON WEATHER
OFFICE...WHICH IS WELL ABOVE THE AVERAGE OF 2.8 DAYS FOR SEPTEMBER.
THERE WERE 27 DAYS WITH FOG...13 OF WHICH FEATURED DENSE FOG.
SEPTEMBER NORMALLY AVERAGES 6.0 DAYS OF DENSE FOG. 9,738 MINUTES OF
SUNSHINE WERE RECORDED LAST MONTH WHICH IS 44 PERCENT OF ALL
POSSIBLE SUNSHINE FOR THE MONTH. THE AVERAGE WIND SPEED FOR
SEPTEMBER WAS 1.8 MPH AND THE HIGHEST WIND GUST OF 29 MPH WAS
RECORDED ON THE 23RD. THE MEAN WIND SPEED FOR SEPTEMBER IS TYPICALLY

23RD...WHICH ESTABLISHED A NEW DAILY HIGH PRECIPITATION RECORD FOR

LONDON LAST MONTH. THE GREATEST 24 HOUR TOTAL WAS 3.17 INCHES AND
HAPPENED FROM THE 23RD THROUGH THE 24TH. SINCE AUGUST 6TH 2006...THE
LONDON CORBIN AIRPORT HAS RECEIVED 13.35 INCHES...WHICH IS 7.22
INCHES ABOVE NORMAL.
LONDON HAD 9 DAYS WITH THUNDER LAST MONTH. ALSO...THERE WERE 29 DAYS
