AUGUST 2008 FINISHED WITH BELOW NORMAL PRECIPITATION AND NEAR NORMAL
TEMPERATURES ACROSS EASTERN KENTUCKY. THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE
ENDED LAST MONTH NEARLY THREE INCHES DRIER THAN NORMAL. IN
FACT...AUGUST 2008 WAS THE DRIEST AUGUST ON RECORD AT JACKSON...AND
IN THE TOP TEN DRIEST MONTHS OF ALL TIME. AT LONDON...AUGUST 2008
FINISHED WITH A PRECIPITATION DEFICIT OF WELL OVER AN INCH.
TEMPERATURES LAST MONTH WERE CLOSE TO NORMAL...WITH JACKSON ENDING
UP JUST TWO TENTHS OF A DEGREE COOLER...AND LONDON FINISHING WITH AN
AVERAGE EQUAL TO NORMAL.

THE END OF AUGUST ALSO MARKED THE END OF THE 2008 METEOROLOGICAL
SUMMER SEASON. OVER THE MONTHS OF JUNE...JULY AND AUGUST...THE
JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE AVERAGED 73.5 DEGREES...WHICH IS 0.2 DEGREES
ABOVE NORMAL. STRANGELY...SUMMER 2008 WAS THE 11TH WARMEST SPRING OF
ALL TIME AT JACKSON. AT LONDON...THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OVER THE
SUMMER MONTHS WAS 74.8 DEGREES...WHICH IS 1.6 DEGREES WARMER. MUCH
BELOW NORMAL SEASONAL PRECIPITATION TOTALS WERE PRESENT AT BOTH
LONDON AND JACKSON. THE LONDON CORBIN AIRPORT TOTALED 9.27
INCHES...WHICH IS 2.72 INCHES DRIER. THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE
RECEIVED 11.23 INCHES OVER THE SUMMER...WHICH IS 2.16 INCHES BELOW

2008 WITH AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 73.6 DEGREES...WHICH IS 0.2
DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL OF 73.8 DEGREES. THE AVERAGE DAILY HIGH WAS
83.5 DEGREES...AND THE AVERAGE DAILY LOW WAS 63.6 DEGREES. THE
HIGHEST TEMPERATURE FOR AUGUST 2008 WAS 93 DEGREES...WHICH OCCURRED
