Rain and Snow Amounts for December 9th thru 12th

THANKS TO A COUPLE OF LATE FALL WEATHER SYSTEMS...ABUNDANT RAINFALL
TOTALS WERE NOTED SINCE TUESDAY. RAINFALL AMOUNTS OVER THE LAST
COUPLE OF DAYS RANGED FROM AROUND AN INCH AND A HALF OVER THE
NORTHERN COAL FIELDS...TO IN EXCESS OF FOUR INCHES ACROSS FAR
SOUTHERN KENTUCKY. THE BULK OF THE PRECIPITATION OCCURRED LATE
TUESDAY AND EARLY WEDNESDAY...AS WELL AS MUCH OF THE DAY ON
THURSDAY. IN ADDITION TO THE MUCH NEEDED RAINFALL...SOME AREAS OF
THE COAL FIELDS SAW SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL LATE THURSDAY AND EARLY
FRIDAY. MANY LOCATIONS RECEIVED AN INCH OR MORE...WITH A SWATH
ACROSS PORTIONS OF POWELL...LEE...WOLFE...MORGAN AND ELLIOTT
COUNTIES OF AT LEAST FOUR INCHES OF SNOW.

WHILE CERTAINLY BENEFICIAL...THE RAINFALL DID NOT END OUR DROUGHT.
EVEN THOUGH MOST EAST KENTUCKY LOCATIONS ARE REPORTING ABOVE NORMAL
PRECIPITATION FOR DECEMBER SO FAR...THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS HAVE
SEEN MUCH DRIER THAN NORMAL CONDITIONS. LOOKING BACK TO THE START OF
THE SUMMER...MANY LOCATIONS ARE EXPERIENCING RAINFALL DEFICITS OF
BETWEEN FIVE AND TEN INCHES.

HERE ARE RAINFALL TOTALS FROM EASTERN KENTUCKY COOPERATIVE WEATHER
STATIONS AND AUTOMATED SURFACE OBSERVING SYSTEMS FROM 7 AM TUESDAY
THROUGH 7 AM EST FRIDAY. SNOWFALL AMOUNTS ARE FROM THE LAST 24 HOURS
ENDING AT 7 AM FRIDAY ARE LISTED AS WELL...ALONG WITH A GRAPHICAL...
DEPICTION BELOW.
