...FEBRUARY WARMER AND DRIER THAN NORMAL ACROSS EASTERN KENTUCKY...
...WINTER 2008-09 WETTER AND SLIGHTLY COLDER THAN NORMAL...

EVEN THOUGH FEBRUARY 2009 EXPERIENCED A COUPLE OF COLD SNAPS...THE
NUMBER OF DAYS WHEN THE MERCURY TOPPED THE 60 DEGREE MARK MADE LAST
MONTH WARMER THAN NORMAL. THE LONDON CORBIN AIRPORT ENDED FEBRUARY
OVER ONE DEGREE ABOVE NORMAL...WHILE THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE
FINISHED UP NEARLY TWO DEGREES WARMER. AFTER TWO MONTHS OF WETTER
THAN NORMAL CONDITIONS...BOTH JACKSON AND LONDON SAW LAST MONTH MUCH
DRIER THAN NORMAL. THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE ENDED UP NEARLY TWO
INCHES BELOW NORMAL...WITH THE LONDON CORBIN AIRPORT CHECKING IN AT
ALMOST AN INCH AND A QUARTER DRIER THAN NORMAL. FEBRUARY 2009 WOULD
HAVE FINISHED UP EVEN DRIER IF NOT FOR PRECIPITATION ON THE LAST DAY
OF THE MONTH. JACKSON PICKED UP ABOUT A QUARTER OF INCH ON THE
28TH...WHILE LONDON ADDED OVER A HALF AN INCH TO THEIR MONTHLY
TOTAL.

THE END OF FEBRUARY ALSO MARKED THE END TO METEOROLOGICAL WINTER.
THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE AVERAGED 36.3 DEGREES...WHICH IS 0.4
DEGREES BELOW NORMAL FOR WINTER. THIS PLACED THE WINTER OF 2008-09
IN A TIE FOR THE 10TH COLDEST WINTER. THE LONDON CORBIN AIRPORT
ENDED UP WITH AN AVERAGE OF 37.0 DEGREES...WHICH IS 0.2 DEGREES
BELOW NORMAL. ON THE PRECIPITATION SIDE OF THE FENCE...BOTH
LOCATIONS FINISHED WINTER WETTER THAN NORMAL...EVEN WITH A BELOW
AVERAGE FEBRUARY. JACKSON MEASURED 14.39 INCHES OVER THE MONTHS OF
DECEMBER...JANUARY AND FEBRUARY. THIS TOTAL IS 2.87 INCHES ABOVE
NORMAL...AND ALSO RANKED AS THE 5TH WETTEST WINTER ON RECORD.
JACKSON ALSO SURPASSED THEIR SNOWFALL AVERAGE OVER THE WINTER
MONTHS. THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE ACCUMULATED 26.2 INCHES OF
SNOW...WHICH IS ABOVE THE AVERAGE OF 18.9 INCHES. AT LONDON...THE
WINTER PRECIPITATION TOTAL WAS 12.52 INCHES...WHICH IS 0.48 INCHES
WETTER THAN NORMAL. NO SNOWFALL DATA IS AVAILABLE AT LONDON.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE NEAR JACKSON FINISHED FEBRUARY
2009 WITH AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 39.8 DEGREES...WHICH IS 1.9
DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. THE AVERAGE DAILY HIGH WAS 49.5 DEGREES...AND

MINIMUM HIGH TEMPERATURE RECORD WAS BROKEN WITH A TEMPERATURE OF 26
DEGREES ON THE 22ND. TWO MAXIMUM LOW TEMPERATURE BENCHMARKS WERE SET
AS WELL...WITH READINGS OF 51 DEGREES ON THE 8TH...AND 57 DEGREES ON
