Devastating Flash Flooding Hits Eastern Kentucky

Devastating flash flooding hit parts of eastern Kentucky Friday night May 8 and Saturday morning May 9. The hardest hit counties were Owsley, Breathitt, Floyd and Pike, although several other counties experienced significant flash flooding and flooding as well. Rainfall of 2 to over 6 inches within a 24 hour period caused the flash flooding. The flash flooding transitioned into small stream and river flooding on Saturday. The following pictures from Breathitt County were taken by the staff and friends of the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Jackson.
