...LATE SPRING AND EARLY SUMMER EXCESSIVE RAINFALL...


THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE AVERAGES 9.70 INCHES OF RAINFALL FOR THE
MONTH OF MAY AND JUNE COMBINED. THE AVERAGE RAINFALL FOR THE LONDON
AREA DURING THE MONTH OF MAY AND JUNE COMBINED...IS 8.36 INCHES.
EASTERN KENTUCKY HAS CERTAINLY TAKEN A BEATING WITH THE LATE SPRING
AND EARLY SUMMER RAINFALLS. THE HORRIBLE FLASH FLOODING THAT
OCCURRED ON MAY 8TH AND 9TH...FOLLOWED BY RIVER FLOODING ON THE 10TH
OF MAY...WILL NOT QUICKLY BE FORGOTTEN.


RAINFALL TOTALS DURING THE LAST HALF OF MAY AND THE FIRST PART OF
JUNE WERE ALSO...NOT VERY NICE ON RELIEF WORKERS. SEVERAL RAINFALL
EVENTS...HAMPERED ROAD CREWS AND RELIEF WORKERS AS RAINFALL AMOUNTS
OF SEVERAL INCHES EXACERBATED RELIEF EFFORTS. CREEKS AND STREAMS
ROSE INTO FLASH FLOOD ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS IN LATE MAY AND EARLY
JUNE. THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SYMPATHIES ARE WITH THE FAMILIES
THAT HAVE BEEN EFFECTED BY THE SPRING AND SUMMER RAINS. WE PLEDGE TO
DO ARE BEST TO KEEP THE CITIZENS OF EASTERN KENTUCKY WARNED AND
PREPARED FOR SUCH EVENTS. TO ALL OF OUR COUNTIES WE WISH TO EXPRESS
A GREAT DEAL OF GRATITUDE TO THE ROADS CREWS AND RELIEF WORKERS FOR
THE OUTSTANDING JOB THAT THEY HAVE DONE.
