Records Fall Once Again as the Unseasonably Cool Conditions Continue

ANOTHER MORNING OF UNSEASONABLY COOL TEMPERATURES GREETED FOLKS
ACROSS EASTERN KENTUCKY AS A DEEP UPPER LEVEL TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE
REMAINED CENTERED OVER THE OHIO VALLEY. TEMPERATURES SETTLED INTO
THE LOW TO MID 50S FOR MOST LOCATIONS AROUND DAWN ONCE AGAIN SETTING
RECORDS. AT THE JACKSON NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE... THE
MERCURY DIPPED TO 53 DEGREES JUST PRIOR TO 7 AM EDT THIS MORNING.
THIS ESTABLISHES A NEW RECORD LOW TEMPERATURE FOR THE DATE. THE
PREVIOUS RECORD WAS 58 DEGREES SET IN 2000. A NEW RECORD LOW WAS
ALSO ESTABLISHED AT THE LONDON CORBIN AIRPORT THIS MORNING WHEN THE
TEMPERATURE SETTLED TO 54 DEGREES AT 731 AM EDT. THE PREVIOUS DAILY
RECORD LOW TEMPERATURE AT LONDON WAS 55 DEGREES SET BACK IN 1965.

WHILE A WARMING TREND WILL BEGIN TODAY... IT IS POSSIBLE THAT MORE
RECORD MINIMUM HIGH TEMPERATURE RECORDS WILL FALL. AT JACKSON THE
FORECAST HIGH IS 74 DEGREES. IF THIS VERIFIES IT WILL BREAK THE
CURRENT RECORD DAILY MINIMUM HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 76 DEGREES WHICH
WAS SET BACK IN 2000. THE CURRENT RECORD MINIMUM HIGH TEMPERATURE AT
LONDON TODAY IS 74 DEGREES SET BACK IN 1979. THE FORECAST HIGH AT
LONDON IS 75 DEGREES... SO THAT RECORD MAY BE SAFE FOR ANOTHER YEAR.
TONIGHT/S RECORD LOWS ARE ALSO PROBABLY SAFE. TONIGHT/S RECORD LOW
AT JACKSON IS 57 DEGREES ESTABLISHED BACK IN 2007 AND THE RECORD AT
LONDON IS 54 DEGREES SET BACK IN 1971. FORECAST LOWS FOR THOSE TWO
STATIONS TONIGHT ARE 59 AND 56 DEGREES RESPECTIVELY... JUST ABOVE
THE RECORDS.

OF COURSE THERE IS STILL A LOT OF MONTH TO GO... BUT JULY 2009 IS ON
PACE TO BE ONE OF THE COOLEST JULYS ON RECORD ACROSS THE AREA. THE
AVERAGE TEMPERATURE AT THE JACKSON NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE
THROUGH MIDNIGHT JULY 19TH HAS BEEN 69.9 DEGREES. THE COOLEST JULY
SINCE RECORD KEEPING BEGAN AT JACKSON IN 1981 OCCURRED IN 1984 AND
AGAIN IN 1996 WHEN THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS 72.7 DEGREES. AT
LONDON... WHICH HAS A STATION RECORD BOOK DATING BACK TO 1954... THE
COOLEST JULY WAS RECORDED BACK IN 1967 WHEN THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE
WAS ONLY 69.9 DEGREES. THROUGH THE FIRST 19 DAYS OF THIS MONTH... THE
AVERAGE TEMPERATURE AT LONDON HAS BEEN 71.6 DEGREES.
