Mesonet Comes to Booneville

Kentucky Mesonet Expanding to Owsley County.

On Wednesday, September 23, 2009, Western Kentucky University Meteorology/Electronics Technicians Steve Struebig and Dana Grabowski were working hard on installing a new Weather and Climate monitoring System in Booneville, Ky. This site will provide valuable data to National Weather Service Meteorologists and support a variety of needs across Kentucky in agriculture, education, emergency management, energy, engineering and construction, recreation, transportation, and water supply management.

The National Weather Service office in Jackson would like to extend its thanks to the Mesonet Techs, Judge Executive Cale Turner, Harvey Roberts, the Industrial Authority Board, the County Road Crew, and the Owsley County Magistrates for their help in this site selection and installation.

Data from the Booneville site should become available during the last week of September. More information about the Kentucky Mesonet and its expansion into Owsley County can be found at this link.
