THANKS TO A DAY THAT SAW OVER TWO INCHES OF RAINFALL...BOTH THE
JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE AND THE LONDON CORBIN AIRPORT ENDED LAST
MONTH WETTER THAN NORMAL. JACKSON FINISHED SEPTEMBER OVER AN INCH
ABOVE NORMAL...WHILE LONDON TOTALED OVER TWO INCHES WETTER. ON THE
TEMPERATURE SIDE OF THE FENCE...LONDON ENDED UP ALMOST ONE DEGREE
WARMER...WHILE JACKSON WAS A FEW TENTHS OF A DEGREE ABOVE NORMAL.
EVEN THIS IS SURPRISING SINCE BOTH LONDON AND JACKSON DID NOT SEE A
HIGH OF 85 DEGREES OR HIGHER. THIS IS ONLY THE FOURTH TIME THAT
LONDON HAS NOT SEEN A HIGH TEMPERATURE OF AT LEAST 85
DEGREES...WHILE IT WAS JUST THE THIRD TIME AT JACKSON. THE MAIN
CAUSE OF SEPTEMBER NOT BEING COOLER THAN NORMAL WAS BECAUSE MANY
DAYS LAST MONTH SAW LOWS IN THE LOWER TO MIDDLE 60S...SOME 5 TO 10
DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL LOWS FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE NEAR JACKSON FINISHED SEPTEMBER
2009 WITH AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 68.3 DEGREES...WHICH IS 0.4
DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 67.9 DEGREES. THE AVERAGE DAILY HIGH WAS
76.0 DEGREES...AND THE AVERAGE DAILY LOW WAS 60.5 DEGREES. THE
HIGHEST TEMPERATURE FOR SEPTEMBER 2009 WAS 83 DEGREES...WHICH
OCCURRED ON THE 22ND. THE LOWEST TEMPERATURE FROM SEPTEMBER WAS 47
DEGREES ON THE 29TH. NO TEMPERATURE RECORDS WERE SET OR TIED AT
JACKSON LAST MONTH. OF FURTHER INTEREST...LAST MONTH AND SEPTEMBER
2006 ARE THE ONLY SEPTEMBERS THAT DID NOT SEE A HIGH TEMPERATURE OF
AT LEAST 84 DEGREES.

THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE RECEIVED 4.88 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION IN
SEPTEMBER 2009...WHICH IS 1.11 INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 3.77
INCHES. THIS TOTAL PLACES SEPTEMBER 2009 AS THE EIGHTH WETTEST
SEPTEMBER ON RECORD. THERE WERE 13 DAYS WHEN A HUNDREDTH OF AN INCH
OR MORE OF PRECIPITATION WAS RECORDED...AND EIGHT DAYS WHEN A TENTH
OF AN INCH OR MORE FELL. THERE WAS TWO DAYS WHEN AT LEAST A HALF AN
INCH OF RAIN WAS RECEIVED...AND ONE DAY WITH MORE THAN ONE INCH. THE
DAY OF THE 26TH NETTED 2.49 INCHES OF RAIN...WHICH WAS THE MOST
RAINFALL LOGGED IN A SINGLE DAY LAST MONTH...AND ESTABLISHED A NEW
DAILY PRECIPITATION RECORD FOR THAT DATE. THE GREATEST AMOUNT OF
PRECIPITATION RECEIVED IN A 24 HOUR PERIOD WAS 2.79 INCHES FROM THE
25TH THROUGH THE 26TH. THE DAY OF THE 6TH SAW 0.33 INCHES OF
RAINFALL AND SET A NEW DAILY PRECIPITATION RECORD FOR THAT DAY. THE
PREVIOUS RECORD WAS ONLY 0.08 INCHES FROM 1989. THROUGH THE END OF
SEPTEMBER...THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE HAS ACCUMULATED 45.77 INCHES
OF PRECIPITATION FOR THE YEAR...WHICH IS 8.04 INCHES ABOVE
NORMAL....AND THE FIFTH WETTEST JANUARY THROUGH SEPTEMBER AT
JACKSON.

THUNDER WAS HEARD ON SIX DAYS LAST MONTH AT THE JACKSON WEATHER
OFFICE...WHICH IS ABOVE THE AVERAGE FOR SEPTEMBER OF 2.9 DAYS.
THERE WERE 21 DAYS WITH FOG...NINE OF WHICH FEATURED DENSE FOG.
SEPTEMBER NORMALLY AVERAGES 6.2 DAYS OF DENSE FOG. 14,187 MINUTES OF
SUNSHINE WERE RECORDED LAST MONTH WHICH IS 64 PERCENT OF ALL
POSSIBLE SUNSHINE FOR THE MONTH. THE AVERAGE WIND SPEED FOR
SEPTEMBER WAS 1.3 MPH...AND THE HIGHEST WIND GUST OF 29 MPH WAS
RECORDED ON SEPTEMBER 28TH. THE MEAN WIND SPEED FOR SEPTEMBER IS
TYPICALLY 4.6 MPH.

THE FIRST NINE MONTHS OF 2008 WAS ONLY 26.71 INCHES...AND 9.69
INCHES BELOW NORMAL.

DAYS WITH FOG...AND SEVEN DAYS WITH DENSE FOG. THE AVERAGE WIND
SPEED FOR SEPTEMBER 2009 WAS 2.8 MPH...WITH THE HIGHEST WIND GUST OF
24 MPH RECORDED ON THE 28TH.
