Record Earliest Days of First Snow in Eastern Kentucky

The highest elevations of Eastern Kentucky may experience the first day of snow falling early this weekend. Snow in October is rare in Eastern Kentucky, but not unheard of. Several locations oberseved snow falling on October 27, 2001. During this decade, snow has been observed at WFO Jackson on October 23, 2006, October 27, 2001, and October 27, 2008. Measurable snow in October is rather rare, but more common in the higher elevations above 2000 feet near the Virginia border.
