THE LATE OCTOBER HEAT WAVE COULD NOT KEEP LAST MONTH FROM ENDING
COOLER THAN NORMAL. THE MAIN CULPRIT FOR OCTOBER/S BELOW NORMAL MEAN
TEMPERATURE AT JACKSON AND LONDON WAS NOT SO MUCH THE COLD
TEMPERATURES...BUT A STRING OF LOW MAXIMUM TEMPERATURES DURING THE
MIDDLE OF THE MONTH. THE LONDON CORBIN AIRPORT ENDED LAST MONTH WITH
A MEAN TEMPERATURE TWO DEGREES BELOW NORMAL...WHILE THE JACKSON
WEATHER OFFICE FINISHED OCTOBER 2009 CLOSER TO THREE DEGREES
COOLER. IN FACT...IT WAS THE FOURTH COOLEST OCTOBER ON RECORD AT
JACKSON. ON THE PRECIPITATION SIDE OF THE FENCE...BOTH LOCATIONS
ENDED LAST MONTH WETTER THAN NORMAL. WHILE JACKSON TOTALED A TAD
OVER A THIRD OF AN INCH ABOVE NORMAL...LONDON ENDED OCTOBER 2009 A
LITTLE OVER AN INCH AND A HALF WETTER THAN NORMAL. OF FURTHER
INTEREST...OCTOBER 2009 WAS THE EIGHTH WETTEST OCTOBER ON RECORD AT
LONDON.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE NEAR JACKSON FINISHED OCTOBER
2009 WITH AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 54.8 DEGREES...WHICH IS 2.7
DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL OF 57.5 DEGREES. THE AVERAGE DAILY HIGH WAS
63.5 DEGREES...AND THE AVERAGE DAILY LOW WAS 46.1 DEGREES. THE
HIGHEST TEMPERATURE FOR OCTOBER 2009 WAS 82 DEGREES...WHICH OCCURRED
ON THE 9TH AND THE 30TH. THE 82 DEGREES ON THE 30TH ESTABLISHED A
NEW MAXIMUM HIGH TEMPERATURE RECORD FOR THAT DAY. THE LOWEST
TEMPERATURE FROM OCTOBER WAS 29 DEGREES ON THE 19TH. A LOW
TEMPERATURE RECORD WAS SET ON THE 18TH WITH A TEMPERATURE OF 33
DEGREES. NUMEROUS MINIMUM HIGH TEMPERATURE RECORDS WERE SET LAST
MONTH AS WELL. MINIMUM HIGH TEMPERATURE BENCHMARKS WERE ESTABLISHED
EACH DAY FROM THE 14TH THROUGH THE 18TH. THESE INCLUDED...49 DEGREES
ON THE 14TH...51 DEGREES ON THE 15TH...49 DEGREES ON THE 16TH...43
DEGREES ON THE 17TH AND 49 DEGREES ON THE 18TH. ALSO...ONE LOW
MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE WAS TIED LAST MONTH WITH A READING OF 59 DEGREES
