JANUARY THROUGHOUT EASTERN KENTUCKY. BOTH THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE
AND THE LONDON CORBIN AIRPORT TIED RECORDS FOR THE MOST CONSECUTIVE
DAYS IN A ROW WITH THE TEMPERATURE NOT WARMING ABOVE 32 DEGREES. IF
NOT FOR A RUN OF WARMER THAN NORMAL DAYS TOWARDS THE END OF
JANUARY...BOTH LOCATIONS WERE LOOKING AT THEIR COLDEST JANUARIES ON
RECORD. THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE ENDED UP OVER THREE AND A HALF
DEGREES BELOW NORMAL...WHILE THE LONDON CORBIN AIRPORT FINISHED LAST
MONTH OVER FOUR AND A HALF DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. IT WAS THE 6TH
COLDEST JANUARY AT JACKSON...AND THE 10TH COLDEST AT LONDON. JACKSON
AND LONDON ALSO ACCUMULATED WETTER THAN NORMAL PRECIPITATION TOTALS
LAST MONTH. JACKSON WAS NEARLY THREE QUARTERS OF AN INCH ABOVE
NORMAL...WHILE LONDON WAS ALMOST A THIRD OF AN INCH WETTER. EVEN
THOUGH JACKSON WAS NOT THAT MUCH ABOVE NORMAL...THE JANUARY 2010
TOTAL WAS GOOD ENOUGH TO MAKE IT THE 9TH WETTEST JANUARY ON RECORD.
THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE ALSO RECEIVED A GREAT DEAL OF SNOW LAST
MONTH...WITH ALMOST HALF OF IT FALLING DURING THE LATE JANUARY SNOW
STORM. THE TOTAL OF 17.1 INCHES MADE JANUARY 2010 THE THIRD SNOWIEST
JANUARY ON RECORD. THIS TOTAL IN COMBINATION WITH LAST MONTH/S
SNOWIEST DECEMBER ON RECORD...WAS THE 2ND GREATEST DECEMBER/JANUARY
TOTAL AT JACKSON. THE DECEMBER 2009 AND JANUARY 2010 TOTAL OF 34.7
INCHES WAS ONLY BEHIND THE 37.8 INCHES FROM DECEMBER 1993 AND
JANUARY 1994.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE NEAR JACKSON FINISHED JANUARY
2010 WITH AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 30.3 DEGREES...WHICH IS 3.6
DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL OF 33.9 DEGREES. THIS WAS GOOD ENOUGH TO
FINISH IN SIXTH PLACE FOR THE COLDEST JANUARIES ON RECORD. THE
