LONDON...
...SUMMER 2010 MUCH WARMER THAN NORMAL ACROSS EASTERN KENTUCKY....

THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE AND THE LONDON CORBIN AIRPORT FINISHED
AUGUST 2010 WITH A MEAN TEMPERATURE OF 77.4 DEGREES. THIS IS SOME 3
DEGREES HIGHER THAN NORMAL FOR THE MONTH AT BOTH LOCATIONS. IN
FACT...IT WAS THE 7TH WARMEST AUGUST AT JACKSON...AND THE 10TH
WARMEST AT LONDON. THE SIMILARITIES ENDED THERE...BECAUSE BOTH
STATIONS WERE QUITE DIFFERENT ON THE PRECIPITATION SIDE OF THE
FENCE. THE LONDON CORBIN AIRPORT ENDED LAST MONTH OVER TWO AND A
HALF INCHES WETTER THAN NORMAL...WHILE THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE
WAS OVER A HALF AN INCH DRIER. ADDITIONALLY...LONDON/S TOTAL PLACED
AUGUST 2010 AT 4TH WETTEST AUGUST OF ALL TIME. OF FURTHER
INTEREST...LONDON BROKE AN AUGUST DAILY PRECIPITATION RECORD WHEN
THEY RECEIVED 3.29 INCHES ON THE 18TH.

THE END OF AUGUST ALSO MARKED THE END TO METEOROLOGICAL SUMMER. BOTH
LOCATIONS WERE VERY CLOSE TO MAKING SUMMER 2010 THE WARMEST SUMMER
OF ALL TIME. BUT A COUPLE OF COOLER THAN NORMAL DAYS IN LATE AUGUST
PUT A STOP TO THAT. JACKSON SAW SUMMER END WITH A MEAN TEMPERATURE
OF 76.4 DEGREES...WELL ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 73.4 DEGREES. SUMMER 2010
WAS THE 3RD WARMEST...ONLY BEHIND THE 76.6 DEGREES FROM 1995 AND
2005. AT THE LONDON CORBIN AIRPORT...THE MEAN TEMPERATURE WAS 77.1
DEGREES...ABOVE THE SUMMER NORMAL OF 74.0 DEGREES. SUMMER 2010 WAS
THE 2ND WARMEST SUMMER...JUST BEHIND THE 77.2 DEGREES FROM 2007. THE
AUGUST PRECIPITATION TOTALS MIRRORED THE SUMMER TOTALS...WITH
JACKSON BEING DRIER THAN NORMAL AND LONDON FINISHING WETTER. THE
SUMMER 2010 PRECIPITATION TOTAL AT JACKSON WAS 12.45 INCHES...BELOW
THE NORMAL OF 13.39 INCHES. LONDON ACCUMULATED 14.48 INCHES OF
PRECIPITATION THIS SUMMER...WELL ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 11.99 INCHES.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE NEAR JACKSON FINISHED AUGUST
2010 WITH AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 77.4 DEGREES...WHICH IS 3.6
DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 73.8 DEGREES. THE AVERAGE DAILY HIGH WAS
87.0 DEGREES...AND THE AVERAGE DAILY LOW WAS 67.7 DEGREES. THE
HIGHEST TEMPERATURE FOR AUGUST 2010 WAS 97 DEGREES...WHICH OCCURRED
ON THE 11TH...AND ESTABLISHED A NEW RECORD FOR THAT DAY. HIGHS OF 95
DEGREES ON THE 10TH SET A NEW RECORD FOR THAT DAY...WHILE THE RECORD
WAS TIED ON THE 4TH. THE LOWEST TEMPERATURE FROM AUGUST WAS 59
DEGREES ON THE 27TH. THIS READING ESTABLISHED THE ONLY LOW
TEMPERATURE RECORD AT JACKSON LAST MONTH. A MINIMUM HIGH TEMPERATURE
RECORD WAS SET ON THE 18TH WITH A READING OF 73 DEGREES. A MAXIMUM
LOW TEMPERATURE RECORD WAS SET ON THE 11TH WITH A READING OF 72
DEGREES...WHILE 73 DEGREES ON THE 4TH TIED THE MAX LOW RECORD FOR
THAT DATE.
