The first snowfall of the winter season finally arrived on Monday and continued into Monday night. The snow showers and snow squalls produced a travel nightmare for many as temperatures dropped into the 20s and roadways turned into a skating rink. The actual snowfall amounts received were generally light but highly variable. The highest amounts occurred over the higher terrain along the Virginia border where up to 4" of snow was reported at Whitesburg.
Thanks to our Cooperative Weather Observers, CoCoRaHS weather observers, and storm spotters whose reports were used to create these maps.
