THE YEAR BEGAN WARMER AND WETTER THAN NORMAL ACROSS EASTERN
KENTUCKY. THE WEATHER OFFICE NEAR JACKSON FINISHED JANUARY NEARLY
FIVE DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL...WHILE THE LONDON CORBIN AIRPORT WAS
THREE AND A HALF DEGREES WARMER. JANUARY 2012 WAS THE 8TH WARMEST
JANUARY AT JACKSON AND THE 10TH WARMEST AT LONDON. ON THE
PRECIPITATION SIDE OF THE FENCE...JACKSON ENDED UP BEING AN INCH AND
A QUARTER WETTER...WHILE LONDON WAS OVER A THIRD OF AN INCH ABOVE
NORMAL. IN FACT...IT WAS THE 9TH WETTEST JANUARY AT JACKSON.
ALSO...IT WAS THE 6TH LEAST SNOWIEST JANUARY AT JACKSON...WHICH
FINISHED OVER THREE INCHES BELOW NORMAL FOR THE MONTH.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE NEAR JACKSON FINISHED JANUARY
2011 WITH AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 39.8 DEGREES...WHICH IS 4.9
DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 34.9 DEGREES. JANUARY 2012 WAS THE EIGHTH
WARMEST JANUARY ON RECORD AT JACKSON. THIS WAS ALSO THE THIRD MONTH
IN A ROW OF MONTHS FINISHING IN THE TOP TEN WARMEST CATEGORY...WITH
DECEMBER 2011 BEING THE FIFTH WARMEST DECEMBER...AND NOVEMBER 2011
BEING THE 6TH WARMEST NOVEMBER. THE AVERAGE DAILY HIGH WAS 49.4
DEGREES...AND THE AVERAGE DAILY LOW WAS 30.2 DEGREES. THE HIGHEST
TEMPERATURE FOR JANUARY 2012 WAS 67 DEGREES...WHICH OCCURRED ON THE
31ST. THE LOWEST TEMPERATURE FROM LAST MONTH WAS 17 DEGREES AND
HAPPENED ON THE 3RD...4TH AND 13TH. 63 DEGREES ON THE 26TH TIED THE
HIGH TEMPERATURE RECORD FOR THAT DATE. NO OTHER HIGH OR LOW
TEMPERATURE RECORDS WERE SET OR TIED LAST MONTH.

WITH FOG...SEVEN OF WHICH FEATURED DENSE FOG. JANUARY NORMALLY
AVERAGES 4.2 DAYS OF DENSE FOG. THE AVERAGE WIND SPEED FOR JANUARY
WAS 5.0 MPH...AND THE HIGHEST WIND GUST OF 49 MPH WAS RECORDED ON
JANUARY 17TH. THE MEAN WIND SPEED FOR JANUARY IS TYPICALLY 6.7 MPH.
