Recap of February 19th Snow Event

A storm system which tracked across the Deep South from late Saturday night February 18, 2012 through Sunday night February 19, 2012, brought several inches of heavy, wet snow to southeast Kentucky.

Below is a graphical depiction of snowfall reports received by the National Weather Service in Jackson.  The southerly storm track kept the accumulating snow confined to locations mainly along and to the south of the Mountain Parkway.

The heavy, wet snowfall brought power outages to as many as 30,000 southeast Kentucky residents, and the power may be out for up to a week in some locations.  Satellite imagery from Monday morning showed the fresh fallen snow covering much of the southern Appalachians...
