THE END OF FEBRUARY MARKED THE END OF METEOROLOGICAL WINTER. BOTH
JACKSON AND LONDON ENDED UP WELL ABOVE NORMAL. THE JACKSON WEATHER
OFFICE FINISHED WINTER WITH A TEMPERATURE OF 41.6 DEGREES...WHICH
WAS THE WARMEST TEMPERATURE EVER AT JACKSON. THE PREVIOUS RECORD WAS
41.2 DEGREE FROM THE WINTER OF 1998-99. JACKSON NORMALLY AVERAGES
37.2 DEGREES. THE LONDON CORBIN AIRPORT ENDED WINTER WITH A
TEMPERATURE OF 40.7 DEGREES...WELL ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 37.8 DEGREES.
THIS READING TIED 1990 FOR THE FIFTH WARMEST WINTER OF ALL TIME AT
LONDON. JACKSON TOTALED 12.86 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION OVER
DECEMBER...JANUARY AND FEBRUARY. JACKSON NORMALLY SEES 11.54 INCHES
OF PRECIPITATION OVER WINTER. AT LONDON...THE PRECIPITATION TOTAL
WAS 11.01 INCHES...BELOW THE WINTER NORMAL OF 11.49 INCHES.

NOT SURPRISINGLY...WARM CONDITIONS WERE PRESENT DURING FEBRUARY
THROUGHOUT THE COAL FIELDS AS WELL. THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE ENDED
UP NEARLY THREE DEGREES WARMER THAN NORMAL...AND IT WAS ALSO THE
NINTH WARMEST FEBRUARY ON RECORD. THE LONDON CORBIN AIRPORT ENDED
LAST MONTH EXACTLY TWO DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. ON THE PRECIPITATION
SIDE OF THE FENCE...JACKSON BARELY ENDED UP WETTER THAN
NORMAL...THANKS TO A VERY WET FEBRUARY 29TH. JACKSON FINISHED LAST
MONTH A COUPLE OF A HUNDREDTHS OF AN INCH ABOVE NORMAL. LONDON ENDED
FEBRUARY WELL OVER AN INCH BELOW NORMAL.

2012 WITH AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 41.7 DEGREES...WHICH IS 2.9
DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 38.8 DEGREES. FEBRUARY 2012 WAS THE NINTH
WARMEST FEBRUARY ON RECORD AT JACKSON. THIS WAS ALSO THE FOURTH
MONTH IN A ROW OF MONTHS FINISHING IN THE TOP TEN WARMEST
CATEGORY...WITH JANUARY 2012 BEING THE EIGHTH WARMEST
JANUARY...DECEMBER 2011 BEING THE FIFTH WARMEST DECEMBER...AND
NOVEMBER 2011 BEING THE 6TH WARMEST NOVEMBER. THE AVERAGE DAILY HIGH
WAS 50.3 DEGREES...AND THE AVERAGE DAILY LOW WAS 33.1 DEGREES. THE
HIGHEST TEMPERATURE FOR FEBRUARY 2012 WAS 71 DEGREES...WHICH
OCCURRED ON THE 23RD. THE LOWEST TEMPERATURE FROM LAST MONTH WAS 12
DEGREES AND HAPPENED ON THE 12TH. FEBRUARY 29TH SAW TWO TEMPERATURE
RECORDS HAPPEN...WHICH IS NOT TOO ASTONISHING SINCE THERE HAVE ONLY
BEEN EIGHT LEAP YEARS SINCE THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE OPENED. 70
DEGREES SET A NEW MAXIMUM RECORD WHILE 56 DEGREE ESTABLISHED A NEW
MAXIMUM LOW TEMPERATURE RECORD ON THE LAST DAY OF THE MONTH.

THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE RECEIVED 3.90 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION IN
FEBRUARY 2012...WHICH IS 0.02 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL. THERE WERE 14
DAYS WHEN A HUNDREDTH OF AN INCH OR MORE OF PRECIPITATION WAS
RECORDED...AND SEVEN DAYS WHEN A TENTH OF AN INCH OR MORE FELL.

IS JUST ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 1.0 DAY FOR FEBRUARY. THERE WERE 18
DAYS WITH FOG...NINE OF WHICH FEATURED DENSE FOG. FEBRUARY NORMALLY
AVERAGES 4.1 DAYS OF DENSE FOG. THE AVERAGE WIND SPEED FOR FEBRUARY
WAS 3.8 MPH...AND THE HIGHEST WIND GUST OF 44 MPH WAS RECORDED ON
FEBRUARY 24TH. THE MEAN WIND SPEED FOR FEBRUARY IS TYPICALLY 6.8
MPH.

THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE RECORDED NO COOLING DEGREE DAYS DURING
