SEPTEMBER ENDED UP COOLER AND MUCH WETTER THAN NORMAL AT JACKSON AND
LONDON. THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE FINISHED LAST MONTH OVER A DEGREE
AND A HALF BELOW NORMAL...WHILE THE LONDON CORBIN AIRPORT WAS MORE
THAN TWO DEGREES COOLER. IN FACT...IT WAS THE TENTH COOLEST
SEPTEMBER AT JACKSON. VERY WET CONDITIONS WERE ALSO ON TAP...WITH
JACKSON NEARLY THREE AND A THIRD INCHES ABOVE NORMAL...WHILE LONDON
WAS OVER FIVE INCHES WETTER. IT WAS NOT SURPRISING THAT BOTH
LOCATIONS FINISHED IN THE TOP TEN OF WETTEST SEPTEMBERS.

LAST MONTH PLACE FOURTH...WHILE IT WAS THE SECOND WETTEST AT LONDON.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE NEAR JACKSON FINISHED SEPTEMBER
2012 WITH AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 66.5 DEGREES...WHICH IS 1.6
DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL OF 68.1 DEGREES. AFTER NINE CONSECUTIVE
MONTHS OF WARMER THAN NORMAL TEMPERATURES...SEPTEMBER 2012 WAS THE
SECOND MONTH IN A ROW OF BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES. THIS WAS THE
FIRST TIME THAT JACKSON HAS EXPERIENCED TWO CONSECUTIVE MONTHS OF
SUB-NORMAL TEMPERATURES SINCE SEPTEMBER AND OCTOBER OF 2011. THE
AVERAGE DAILY HIGH WAS 75.7 DEGREES...AND THE AVERAGE DAILY LOW WAS
57.3 DEGREES. THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURE FOR SEPTEMBER 2012 WAS 88
DEGREES...WHICH OCCURRED ON THE 7TH. NO HIGH TEMPERATURE RECORDS
WERE SET OR TIED AT JACKSON LAST MONTH. THE LOWEST TEMPERATURE FROM
SEPTEMBER 2012 WAS 40 DEGREES ON THE 24TH. A LOW TEMPERATURE RECORD
WAS ESTABLISHED ON THE 19TH WITH A READING OF 46 DEGREES. ALSO OF
INTEREST...TWO DAILY MAXIMUM LOW TEMPERATURE RECORDS WERE SET LAST
MONTH...73 DEGREES ON THE 1ST AND 70 DEGREES ON THE 4TH. ALSO OF
NOTE...THE 73 DEGREES ON THE 1ST TIED THE MAXIMUM LOW RECORD FOR THE
MONTH AS WELL...MATCHING SEPTEMBER 7TH 2007.

THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE RECEIVED 6.77 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION IN
SEPTEMBER 2012...WHICH IS 3.31 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL. LAST MONTH WAS
THE FOURTH WETTEST SEPTEMBER ON RECORD AT JACKSON. THERE WERE
NINE DAYS WHEN A HUNDREDTH OF AN INCH OR MORE OF PRECIPITATION WAS
RECORDED...AND NINE DAYS WHEN A TENTH OF AN INCH OR MORE FELL.
THERE WERE FOUR DAYS WHEN AT LEAST A HALF AN INCH OF RAIN WAS
RECEIVED...AND TWO DAYS WITH MORE THAN ONE INCH. THE DAY OF THE 17TH
NETTED 2.33 INCHES OF RAIN WHICH WAS THE GREATEST DAILY AMOUNT FOR
SEPTEMBER AND DID NOT SET A RECORD THAT DAY. THE DAILY PRECIPITATION
RECORD FOR THE 17TH IS 2.67 INCHES FROM 2004. THERE WAS ONE
PRECIPITATION RECORD IN SEPTEMBER 2012...AND THAT WAS 0.42 INCHES ON
THE 2ND. THAT AMOUNT BESTED THE PREVIOUS RECORD FROM 2000 OF ONLY
0.22 INCHES. THE GREATEST AMOUNT OF RAINFALL RECEIVED IN A 24 HOUR
PERIOD WAS 3.66 INCHES FROM THE 17TH TO THE 18TH. THAT AMOUNT ALSO
DID NOT SET A RECORD. THE RECORD 24 HOUR TOTAL IS 3.74 INCHES FROM
IS ALSO FROM 2004....BUT THAT AMOUNT CAME OVER THE 7TH TO THE 8TH.
SEPTEMBER 2004 WAS A VERY WET MONTH AT JACKSON...THANKS TO THE
REMNANTS OF HURRICANE FRANCES ON THE 7TH AND 8TH...AND THE REMNANTS
OF HURRICANE IVAN ON THE 17TH...BUT THE WETTEST SEPTEMBER WAS
ACTUALLY IN 1988 WITH 7.82 INCHES. THE ANNUAL PRECIPITATION TOTAL
THROUGH THE END OF SEPTEMBER IS 40.52 INCHES...WHICH IS 3.77 INCHES
ABOVE NORMAL FOR THE YEAR.

THUNDER WAS HEARD FIVE DAYS AT THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE...WHICH IS
ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 3.0 DAYS FOR SEPTEMBER. THERE WERE 15 DAYS WITH
FOG...NINE OF WHICH FEATURED DENSE FOG. SEPTEMBER NORMALLY AVERAGES
6.2 DAYS OF DENSE FOG. THE AVERAGE WIND SPEED FOR SEPTEMBER WAS 1.4
MPH...AND THE HIGHEST WIND GUST OF 28 MPH WAS RECORDED ON SEPTEMBER
8TH. THE MEAN WIND SPEED FOR SEPTEMBER IS TYPICALLY 4.4 MPH.

JACKSON ACCUMULATED THE FIRST HEATING DEGREE DAYS OF THE HEATING
DEGREE DAY SEASON LAST MONTH. THE SEPTEMBER HEATING DEGREE DAY TOTAL
WAS 62...WHICH IS 13 HEATING DEGREE DAYS ABOVE NORMAL. THUS THE

DAILY LOW WAS 55.9 DEGREES. THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURE FROM SEPTEMBER
2012 WAS 87 DEGREES...WHICH OCCURRED ON SEPTEMBER 5TH AND 7TH. THE
LOWEST TEMPERATURE FROM SEPTEMBER 2012 WAS 37 DEGREES...WHICH
HAPPENED ON THE 24TH. NO HIGH OR LOW TEMPERATURE RECORDS WERE SET OR
TIED AT LONDON LAST MONTH. DAILY MAXIMUM LOW TEMPERATURE RECORDS
WERE TIED ON THE 1ST WITH 71 DEGREES...AND ON THE 2ND WITH 70

SEPTEMBER 2012...WHICH IS 5.05 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL. LAST MONTH WAS
THE SECOND WETTEST SEPTEMBER AT LONDON...ONLY BEHIND THE 8.50 INCHES
FROM 2004. THERE WERE 11 DAYS WHEN A HUNDREDTH OF AN INCH OR MORE
FELL...AND NINE DAYS WHEN A TENTH OF AN INCH OR MORE OF RAIN WAS
RECORDED. LONDON HAD FOUR DAYS WITH AT LEAST A HALF AN INCH...AND
THREE DAYS GREATER THAN AN INCH. THE GREATEST DAILY AMOUNT WAS 3.57
INCHES ON THE 17TH. THIS AMOUNT DID NOT COME CLOSE TO THE DAILY
RECORD OF 4.32 INCHES FROM 2004. A DAILY PRECIPITATION RECORD WAS
SET ON THE 2ND WITH A TOTAL OF 1.72 INCHES. THE GREATEST AMOUNT OF
PRECIPITATION RECEIVED IN A 24 HOUR PERIOD WAS 3.81 INCHES FROM THE
17TH TO THE 18TH. THE ANNUAL PRECIPITATION TOTAL THROUGH THE END OF
SEPTEMBER IS 36.42 INCHES...WHICH IS 0.23 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL FOR
THE YEAR.

LONDON HAD FOUR DAYS WITH THUNDER LAST MONTH. ALSO...THERE WERE 23
DAYS WITH FOG...AND SIX DAYS WITH DENSE FOG. THE AVERAGE WIND SPEED
FOR SEPTEMBER 2012 WAS 2.8 MPH...WITH THE HIGHEST WIND GUST OF 51
MPH RECORDED ON THE 2ND.

THE LONDON CORBIN AIRPORT HAD 104 COOLING DEGREE DAYS IN
SEPTEMBER...WHICH IS 38 BELOW NORMAL. THE SEASONAL TOTAL IS NOW
1222...WHICH IS 56 COOLING DEGREE DAYS ABOVE NORMAL. THERE WERE 63
HEATING DEGREE DAYS RECORDED AT LONDON LAST MONTH...WHICH WERE THE
