THE END OF NOVEMBER MARKED THE END OF METEOROLOGICAL FALL. EVEN
THOUGH NOVEMBER WAS DRY...THIS WAS OFFSET BY THE VERY WET
SEPTEMBER...MAKING AUTUMN WETTER THAN NORMAL. THE JACKSON WEATHER
OFFICE TOTALED 11.85 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION...WHICH IS 1.24 INCHES
ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 10.61 INCHES. THE LONDON CORBIN AIRPORT PICKED
UP 12.12 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION DURING AUTUMN...WHICH IS 1.90
INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 10.22 INCHES. INTERESTINGLY...BOTH
LOCATIONS FINISHED AS THE 14TH WETTEST AUTUMN ON RECORD. BUT THE
REAL STORY WAS THE VERY COOL AUTUMN. JACKSON ENDED UP WITH AN
AVERAGE OF 55.8 DEGREES...WHICH IS 2.4 DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL OF
58.2 DEGREES. LONDON FINISHED WITH AN AVERAGE OF 54.4
DEGREES...WHICH IS 3.3 DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL OF 57.7 DEGREES. IN
FACT...BOTH LOCATIONS SAW AUTUMN 2012 PLACE IN THE TOP TEN OF
COOLEST FALLS. JACKSON PLACED FOURTH COOLEST WHILE LONDON HAD THE
SIXTH COOLEST FALL.

NOVEMBER 2012 SAW COOL AND VERY DRY CONDITIONS ACROSS EASTERN
KENTUCKY. JACKSON FINISHED LAST MONTH OVER THREE DEGREES BELOW
NORMAL...WHILE LONDON WAS NEARLY FIVE DEGREES COOLER. ALSO OF
NOTE...THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE SAW NOVEMBER 2012 FINISH AS THE
EIGHTH COOLEST NOVEMBER ON RECORD...WHILE THE LONDON CORBIN AIRPORT
TIED FOR THE SEVENTH COOLEST NOVEMBER. IN ADDITION TO THE COOL
CONDITIONS...LAST MONTH WAS VERY DRY ACROSS THE COAL FIELDS. THE
LONDON CORBIN AIRPORT FINISHED LAST MONTH NEARLY THREE INCHES DRIER
THAN NORMAL...WHILE THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE WAS OVER THREE INCHES
BELOW NORMAL. IT WAS THE SECOND DRIEST NOVEMBER AT JACKSON...AND
THIRD DRIEST NOVEMBER AT LONDON.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE NEAR JACKSON FINISHED NOVEMBER
2012 WITH AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 45.3 DEGREES...WHICH IS 3.1
DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL OF 48.4 DEGREES. LAST MONTH WAS THE FOURTH
CONSECUTIVE MONTH OF BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES. THIS FEAT HASN`T
BEEN ACCOMPLISHED SINCE JULY THROUGH NOVEMBER OF 2008. NOVEMBER 2012
WAS THE EIGHTH COOLEST NOVEMBER AS WELL. THE AVERAGE DAILY HIGH WAS
55.4 DEGREES...AND THE AVERAGE DAILY LOW WAS 35.1 DEGREES. THE
HIGHEST TEMPERATURE FOR NOVEMBER 2012 WAS 73 DEGREES...WHICH
OCCURRED ON THE 10TH AND 11TH. IN FACT...THE 73 DEGREES ON THE 11TH
ESTABLISHED A NEW MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE RECORD FOR THAT DATE. THE
LOWEST TEMPERATURE FROM NOVEMBER 2012 WAS 23 DEGREES ON THE 25TH. NO
LOW TEMPERATURE RECORDS WERE SET OR TIED LAST MONTH. ALSO OF
INTEREST...ONE DAILY MINIMUM HIGH TEMPERATURE RECORD WAS SET LAST
MONTH...36 DEGREES ON THE 24TH.

THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE ONLY RECEIVED 0.84 INCHES OF
PRECIPITATION IN NOVEMBER 2012...WHICH IS 3.12 INCHES BELOW NORMAL.
LAST MONTH WAS THE SECOND DRIEST NOVEMBER ON RECORD AT
JACKSON...ONLY BEHIND THE 0.80 INCHES FROM 2009. THERE WERE FIVE
DAYS WHEN A HUNDREDTH OF AN INCH OR MORE OF PRECIPITATION WAS
RECORDED...AND THREE DAYS WHEN A TENTH OF AN INCH OR MORE FELL.
THERE WERE NO DAYS  WHEN AT LEAST A HALF AN INCH OF RAIN WAS
RECEIVED. THE DAY OF THE 12TH NETTED 0.44 INCHES OF RAIN WHICH WAS
THE GREATEST DAILY AMOUNT FOR NOVEMBER AND WAS ALSO THE GREATEST
AMOUNT OF RAINFALL RECEIVED IN A 24 HOUR PERIOD. THIS WAS ONLY THE
SECOND TIME IN THE LAST 32 YEARS THAT JACKSON HAS NOT SEEN A DAY IN
NOVEMBER WITH 0.45 INCHES OR MORE OF PRECIPITATION...THE OTHER BEING
NOVEMBER OF 2006. NOT SURPRISINGLY...THERE WERE NO DAILY
PRECIPITATION RECORDS SET LAST MONTH. THE ANNUAL PRECIPITATION TOTAL
THROUGH THE END OF NOVEMBER IS 45.60 INCHES...WHICH IS 1.30 INCHES
ABOVE NORMAL FOR THE YEAR. JACKSON ALSO RECEIVED A TRACE OF SNOWFALL
LAST MONTH. THE SEASONAL SNOWFALL TOTAL REMAINS AT 1.1
INCHES...WHICH IS 0.5 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL FOR THE SEASON.

THUNDER WAS HEARD ON ONE DAY AT THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE...WHICH
IS JUST BELOW THE NORMAL OF 1.1 DAYS FOR NOVEMBER. THERE WERE EIGHT
DAYS WITH FOG...ONE OF WHICH FEATURED DENSE FOG. NOVEMBER NORMALLY
AVERAGES 3.5 DAYS OF DENSE FOG. THE AVERAGE WIND SPEED FOR NOVEMBER
WAS 2.6 MPH...AND THE HIGHEST WIND GUST OF 30 MPH WAS RECORDED ON
NOVEMBER 12TH. THE MEAN WIND SPEED FOR NOVEMBER IS TYPICALLY 6.1
MPH. ALSO...ICE PELLETS WERE NOTED ONE DAY LAST MONTH AS WELL.

JACKSON ACCUMULATED 586 HEATING DEGREE DAYS LAST MONTH...WHICH IS 83
HEATING DEGREE DAYS ABOVE NORMAL. THE TOTAL FOR THE HEATING DEGREE
DAY SEASON IS NOW 952...WHICH IS 152 HEATING DEGREE DAYS ABOVE
NORMAL. THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE RECORDED NO COOLING DEGREE DAYS
DURING NOVEMBER 2012...WHICH IS 4 COOLING DEGREE DAYS BELOW NORMAL.
THE SEASONAL TOTAL REMAINS 1318...WHICH IS 164 COOLING DEGREE DAYS
ABOVE NORMAL.

AT THE LONDON CORBIN AIRPORT...THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS 42.9
DEGREES...WHICH IS 4.7 DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL OF 47.6 DEGREES FOR
NOVEMBER. THIS WAS GOOD ENOUGH TO TIE NOVEMBER 2008 FOR THE 7TH
COOLEST NOVEMBER AT LONDON. LONDON ALSO HAS A CURRENT STRING OF FOUR
MONTHS OF BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES. THE LAST TIME THAT THE LONDON
CORBIN AIRPORT HAS SEEN FOUR CONSECUTIVE MONTHS OF BELOW NORMAL
TEMPERATURES WAS DECEMBER 2009 THROUGH MARCH 2010. THE AVERAGE DAILY
HIGH WAS 55.8 DEGREES...AND THE AVERAGE DAILY LOW WAS 30.0 DEGREES.
THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURE FROM NOVEMBER 2012 WAS 71 DEGREES...WHICH
OCCURRED ON THE 10TH. THE LOWEST TEMPERATURE FROM LAST MONTH WAS 20
DEGREES...WHICH HAPPENED ON THE 25TH. NO TEMPERATURE RECORDS WERE
SET OR TIED AT LONDON LAST MONTH.

THE LONDON CORBIN AIRPORT RECORDED 0.91 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION IN
NOVEMBER 2012...WHICH IS 2.92 INCHES BELOW NORMAL. LAST MONTH WAS
