Snowy Day at NWS Jackson, KY
In addition to the winter solstice occurring at 7:11 EST / 6:11 CST this morning, many Kentuckians were treated to their first taste of winter precipitation over the past 24 hours. All of this, however, is just a teaser for the more significant winter storm setting its sights on the Commonwealth next week. While current indications are the storm will pale in comparison to the blizzard that just trekked from the Central Plains to the Great Lakes, its timing immediately after Christmas could cause problems for those traveling over the holidays.
The good news is that it's not too late to prepare yourself and your vehicle for this weather!
Over the next few days, visit our Kentucky Winter Weather Awareness page for information on how to stay abreast of the latest forecasts, prepare for snow, cold, and ice, and how to get your information to the National Weather Service so we can better serve Kentuckians in our mission to protect lives and property through the issuance of timely weather forecasts, warnings, and information.
