VERY COLD CONDITIONS WERE NOTED ACROSS EASTERN KENTUCKY LAST MONTH.
THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE FINISHED MARCH 2013 EIGHT DEGREES BELOW
NORMAL...WHILE THE LONDON CORBIN AIRPORT WAS A LITTLE OVER EIGHT
DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. IN FACT...IT WAS THE COLDEST MARCH AT
JACKSON...AND THE THIRD COLDEST AT LONDON. ON THE PRECIPITATION
SIDE OF THE FENCE...BOTH JACKSON AND LONDON ENDED LAST MARCH WITH
ABOVE NORMAL PRECIPITATION. THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE WAS AROUND A
HALF AN INCH WETTER...WHILE THE LONDON CORBIN AIRPORT WAS NEARLY AN
INCH AND A HALF ABOVE NORMAL. ALSO OF NOTE...JACKSON SAW THE THIRD
SNOWIEST MARCH ON RECORD.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE NEAR JACKSON FINISHED MARCH
2013 WITH AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 39.4 DEGREES...WHICH IS 8.0
DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL OF 47.4 DEGREES. THE AVERAGE DAILY HIGH WAS
48.0 DEGREES...AND THE AVERAGE DAILY LOW WAS 30.8 DEGREES. LAST
MONTH WAS THE COLDEST MARCH ON RECORD AT JACKSON...EASILY BESTING
THE PREVIOUS RECORD OF 41.2 DEGREES FROM MARCH OF 1996.
INTERESTINGLY...MARCH 2012 WAS THE WARMEST MARCH ON RECORD...19.8

25TH SET NEW MINIMUM HIGH TEMPERATURE RECORDS...WHILE 30 DEGREES ON THE
21ST TIED THE RECORD FOR THAT DATE.

THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE RECEIVED 4.63 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION IN
MARCH 2013...WHICH IS 0.51 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL. THERE WERE 13 DAYS
WHEN A HUNDREDTH OF AN INCH OR MORE OF PRECIPITATION WAS
RECORDED...AND EIGHT DAYS WHEN A TENTH OF AN INCH OR MORE FELL.
THERE WERE THREE DAYS WHEN AT LEAST A HALF AN INCH OF RAIN WAS
RECEIVED...AND ONE DAY WITH MORE THAN AN INCH. THE DAY OF THE 26TH
NETTED 1.46 INCHES OF RAIN...WHICH WAS THE GREATEST DAILY AMOUNT FOR

MONTH...WHICH IS 7.8 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL. IN FACT...MORE SNOW FELL
LAST MONTH THAN HAD FALLEN THROUGH THE END OF FEBRUARY. THE SEASONAL
SNOWFALL TOTAL IS NOW 20.0 INCHES...WHICH IS 2.5 INCHES BELOW NORMAL
FOR THE SEASON. ADDITIONALLY...THE 10.7 INCHES MAKES MARCH 2013 THE
THIRD SNOWIEST ON RECORD AT JACKSON. FOUR DAILY SNOWFALL RECORDS
WERE SET LAST MONTH. 2.1 INCHES ON THE 1ST...1.5 INCHES ON THE
6TH...3.2 INCHES ON THE 25TH AND 1.2 INCHES ON THE 26TH ALL SET NEW
DAILY SNOWFALL RECORDS.

THUNDER WAS HEARD ONE DAY AT THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE...WHICH IS
BELOW THE NORMAL OF 2.7 DAYS FOR MARCH. THE LACK OF THUNDERSTORMS
CAN BE ATTRIBUTED TO THE COLDER TEMPERATURES. THERE WERE 15 DAYS
WITH FOG...FIVE OF WHICH FEATURED DENSE FOG. MARCH NORMALLY AVERAGES
3.8 DAYS OF DENSE FOG. THE AVERAGE WIND SPEED FOR MARCH WAS 4.3
MPH...AND THE HIGHEST WIND GUST OF 48 MPH WAS RECORDED ON MARCH 5TH.
THE MEAN WIND SPEED FOR MARCH IS TYPICALLY 6.8 MPH. ALSO...GLAZE WAS
REPORTED ON TWO DAYS.
