...MAY DRIER THAN NORMAL WITH NEARLY SEASONABLE TEMPERATURES...

THE END OF MAY MARKS THE END OF METEOROLOGICAL SPRING. BOTH JACKSON
AND LONDON SAW SPRING 2013 MUCH COOLER THAN NORMAL. THE JACKSON
WEATHER OFFICE ENDED SPRING WITH AN AVERAGE OF 53.9 DEGREES...WHICH
IS 2.5 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. THE LONDON CORBIN AIRPORT FINISHED UP
WITH A SPRING AVERAGE OF 53.0 DEGREES...WHICH IS 3.2 DEGREES COOLER
THAN NORMAL. IN FACT...SPRING 2013 PLACED IN THE TOP TEN COOLEST
SPRING AT BOTH LOCATIONS...JACKSON SAW ITS FIFTH COOLEST...WHILE
LONDON HAD ITS 7TH COOLEST. SPRING 2013 SAW QUITE A DIFFERENCE IN
PRECIPITATION TOTALS BETWEEN JACKSON AND LONDON. THE JACKSON WEATHER
OFFICE TOTALED 12.56 INCHES DURING SPRING...WHICH IS 0.59 INCHES
DRIER THAN NORMAL. THE LONDON CORBIN AIRPORT ACCUMULATED 16.22
INCHES OVER MARCH...APRIL AND MAY OF 2013. THIS TOTAL IS 2.94 INCHES
ABOVE NORMAL...AND WAS GOOD ENOUGH FOR THE 13TH WETTEST SPRING AT
LONDON.

MAY 2013 SAW SOME DRY CONDITIONS ACROSS EASTERN KENTUCKY. THE
JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE FINISHED LAST MONTH NEARLY ONE INCH BELOW
NORMAL...WHILE LONDON WAS NEARLY TWO THIRDS OF AN INCH DRIER.
JACKSON AND LONDON SAW THEIR TEMPERATURE AVERAGES END UP ON
DIFFERENT SIDES OF NORMAL LAST MONTH. THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE HAD
A MAY AVERAGE A FEW TENTHS WARMER...WHILE THE LONDON CORBIN AIRPORT
FINISHED LAST MONTH NEARLY A DEGREE COOLER.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE NEAR JACKSON FINISHED MAY 2013
WITH AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 64.9 DEGREES...WHICH IS 0.3 DEGREES
ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 64.6 DEGREES. STRANGELY ENOUGH...APRIL 2013 WAS
ALSO 0.3 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. THE AVERAGE DAILY HIGH WAS 74.7
DEGREES...AND THE AVERAGE DAILY LOW WAS 55.0 DEGREES. THE HIGHEST
TEMPERATURE FOR MAY 2013 WAS 87 DEGREES...AND OCCURRED ON THE 30TH
AND 31ST. THE 86 DEGREES ON THE 21ST ESTABLISHED THE ONLY HIGH
TEMPERATURE RECORD DURING MAY 2013. THE LOWEST TEMPERATURE FROM LAST
MONTH WAS 37 DEGREES ON THE 13TH...AND SET A DAILY LOW TEMPERATURE
RECORD. ALSO...TWO OTHER LOW TEMPERATURE RECORDS WERE
ESTABLISHED...48 DEGREES ON THE 24TH AND 42 DEGREES ON THE 25TH.
ADDITIONALLY...52 DEGREES ON THE 5TH SET A NEW DAILY MINIMUM HIGH
TEMPERATURE RECORD...AND 65 DEGREES ON THE 29TH TIED A DAILY MAXIMUM
LOW TEMPERATURE RECORD. THE 65 DEGREES ON THE 29TH IS IN GOOD
COMPANY...THIS WAS THE SIXTH TIME THAT MAY 29TH HAS HAD A LOW OF 65
DEGREES IN THE PAST 33 YEARS...INCLUDING THE PAST THREE YEARS.

THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE RECEIVED 4.23 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION IN
MAY 2013...WHICH IS 0.97 INCHES BELOW NORMAL. THERE WERE 15 DAYS

FOG...SEVEN OF WHICH FEATURED DENSE FOG. MAY NORMALLY AVERAGES 6.2
DAYS OF DENSE FOG. THE AVERAGE WIND SPEED FOR MAY WAS 2.4 MPH...AND
THE HIGHEST WIND GUST OF 44 MPH WAS RECORDED ON MAY 21ST. THE MEAN
WIND SPEED FOR MAY IS TYPICALLY 5.0 MPH.
