THE YEAR 2013 CAME TO A CLOSE WITH BOTH JACKSON AND LONDON RANKING
IN THEIR RESPECTIVE TOP TEN WETTEST YEARS. THE JACKSON WEATHER
OFFICE HAD AN ANNUAL TOTAL OF 56.72 INCHES...WHICH IS 8.38 INCHES
ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 48.34 INCHES. THE DIFFERENCE AT THE LONDON
CORBIN AIRPORT WAS EVEN GREATER...WITH A 2013 TOTAL OF 56.42
INCHES...9.28 INCHES WETTER THAN THE NORMAL OF 47.14 INCHES. IT WAS
THE SIXTH WETTEST YEAR AT JACKSON...AND THE TENTH WETTEST AT LONDON.
2013 WAS ON THE COOL SIDE AT BOTH LOCATIONS. COINCIDENTALLY JACKSON
AND LONDON ENDED UP 1.1 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. THE JACKSON WEATHER
OFFICE HAD AN AVERAGE OF 55.5 DEGREES. THE LONDON CORBIN AIRPORT HAD
AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 55.6 DEGREES FOR 2013. THE NORMAL FOR
JACKSON IS 55.6 DEGREES...WHILE LONDON TYPICALLY AVERAGES 55.7
DEGREES FOR THE YEAR. OF FURTHER INTEREST...2013 WAS THE 7TH COOLEST
YEAR AT JACKSON.

AFTER A DRY NOVEMBER...VERY WET CONDITIONS RETURNED TO THE COAL
FIELDS DURING DECEMBER 2013. BOTH JACKSON AND LONDON WERE NEARLY TWO
AND A QUARTER INCHES WETTER THAN NORMAL. IN FACT...IT WAS THE THIRD
WETTEST DECEMBER AT JACKSON...AND SIXTH WETTEST AT LONDON. WARM
CONDITIONS WERE ALSO IN PLACE FOR MUCH OF DECEMBER. THE JACKSON
WEATHER OFFICE AND THE LONDON CORBIN AIRPORT FINISHED LAST MONTH
OVER TWO DEGREES WARMER THAN NORMAL. ALSO OF NOTE...LAST MONTH WAS
THE NINTH LEAST SNOWIEST DECEMBER AT THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE. NO
SNOWFALL INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE FOR THE LONDON CORBIN AIRPORT.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE NEAR JACKSON FINISHED DECEMBER
2013 WITH AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 40.3 DEGREES...WHICH IS 2.2
DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 38.1 DEGREES. THE AVERAGE DAILY HIGH WAS
48.0 DEGREES...AND THE AVERAGE DAILY LOW WAS 32.5 DEGREES. THE
HIGHEST TEMPERATURE FOR DECEMBER 2013 WAS 73 DEGREES...AND OCCURRED
ON THE 21ST...AND SET A NEW DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURE RECORD FOR THAT
DAY. 64 DEGREES ON THE 20TH AND 69 DEGREES ON THE 22ND ALSO
ESTABLISHED NEW HIGH TEMPERATURE RECORDS FOR THEIR RESPECTIVE DATES.
THE LOWEST TEMPERATURE FROM DECEMBER 2013 WAS 16 DEGREES ON
CHRISTMAS DAY. NO DAILY LOW RECORDS WERE SET OR TIED LAST MONTH.
THERE WAS A MAXIMUM LOW TEMPERATURE RECORD OF 56 DEGREES ON THE
21ST. ADDITIONALLY...49 DEGREES ON THE 20TH TIED THE MAXIMUM LOW
TEMPERATURE RECORD FOR THAT DATE.

THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE RECEIVED 7.09 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION IN
DECEMBER 2013...WHICH IS 2.91 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL. DECEMBER 2013 WAS
THE THIRD WETTEST DECEMBER AT JACKSON...ONLY BEHIND THE 12.07 INCHES
IN 1990 AND THE 9.35 INCHES FROM 1991. THERE WERE 15 DAYS WHEN A
HUNDREDTH OF AN INCH OR MORE OF PRECIPITATION WAS RECORDED...AND TEN
DAYS WHEN A TENTH OF AN INCH OR MORE FELL. THERE WERE FIVE DAYS WHEN
AT LEAST A HALF AN INCH OF RAIN WAS RECEIVED...AND THREE DAYS WITH
MORE THAN AN INCH. THE DAY OF THE 6TH NETTED 2.15 INCHES OF
RAIN...WHICH WAS THE GREATEST DAILY AMOUNT FOR DECEMBER...AND
ESTABLISHED A DAILY PRECIPITATION RECORD FOR THAT DAY. THE GREATEST

SNOWFALL RECORD SET ON THE 10TH WITH ONE INCH EVEN. THE SEASONAL
TOTAL IS NOW 4.3 INCHES...1.2 INCHES BELOW NORMAL.

THUNDER WAS HEARD ON ONE DAY AT THE JACKSON WEATHER OFFICE...WHICH
IS ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 0.4 DAYS FOR DECEMBER. THERE WERE 13 DAYS
WITH FOG...FOUR OF WHICH FEATURED DENSE FOG. DECEMBER NORMALLY
AVERAGES 4.5 DAYS OF DENSE FOG. THE AVERAGE WIND SPEED FOR DECEMBER
WAS 4.7 MPH...AND THE HIGHEST WIND GUST OF 42 MPH WAS RECORDED ON
