McAlpine Upper Gage on the Ohio River Has Moved

The USGS is moving the McAlpine Upper Gage on the Ohio River from its current position after 14 years of service under the Second Street Bridge to a new location three miles upstream to the Louisville Water Company water tower that is located near the intersection of Zorn Avenue and River Road. It is important to note that the water level that was regularly displayed at the 2nd Street location may not be the identical stage reading at the water tower due to the difference in elevation between the two sites.

The water tower gage was installed to better serve the public and local municipalities and will eventually be able to provide real-time stream discharge and velocity data for the Ohio River, making it only the fourth gage on the 981 mile long Ohio River to accomplish this task.
