NWS Determined Straight Line Wind Damage In Scott County

...STRAIGHT LINE WIND DAMAGE IN SCOTT COUNTY ON AUGUST 4 2009...

A NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE STORM SURVEY TEAM IN CONJUNCTION WITH
SCOTT COUNTY KENTUCKY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT INVESTIGATED STORM DAMAGE
IN SCOTT COUNTY. THE STORM SURVEY TEAM FOUND DAMAGE CONFIRMING TWO
AREAS OF STRAIGHT LINE WIND DAMAGE NEAR STAMPING GROUND.

ON STAMPING GROUND ROAD...THERE WERE MULTIPLE AREAS WITH LARGE LIMBS
AND TREES BEING BLOWN DOWN IN A WEST NORTHWEST TO EAST SOUTHEAST
FASHION. THE MOST SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE WAS LOCATED AT 2823 STAMPING
GROUND ROAD WHERE A LARGE WELL CONSTRUCTED BARN WAS DESTROYED AND
SOME OF THE LARGE DEBRIS WAS THROWN OVER 250 YARDS. SEVERAL LARGE
TRACTORS WERE DAMAGED NEAR THE BARN. SOME TWO BY FOURS AND METAL
SIDING WERE BLOWN INTO A HOME AT THE BOTTOM OF THE HILL. ALL OF THIS
DAMAGE WAS ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF STAMPING GROUND. WE ESTIMATE
STRAIGHT LINE WIND SPEEDS OF 70 MPH.

ON WHITE OAK ROAD...NUMEROUS LARGE LIMBS AND SOME TREES WERE BLOWN
OVER IN A SOUTHERLY DIRECTION. AT 280 WHITE OAK ROAD SEVERAL PIN
OAK TREES WERE BLOWN DOWN ALONG WITH ONE TREE ON TOP OF THE HOME.
THERE WAS ALSO POWER LINES DAMAGED ALONG WITH SOME FENCING. ACROSS
THE STREET...AN OLDER BARN WAS COMPLETELY BLOWN OVER. WE ESTIMATE
STRAIGHT LINE WIND SPEEDS OF 60 MPH.
