Heavy Rainfall and Flooding Reports from Tuesday-Thursday

Gulf moisture combined with a weak warm frontal boundary and upper level disturbance to create widespread rain and embedded thunderstorms across mainly southern Kentucky from Tuesday night through Thursday morning.  This combination created torrential rainfall as well as some flash flooding, especially across Kentucky counties near the Tennessee border.  Below is a map of the rainfall totals over the past 48 hours:

With all of this rainfall, the Bowling Green airport set a new rainfall record on Wednesday, receiving 3.23", smashing its old record of 1.72" back in 1931.

Many of the reports used to produce this map came from our network of volunteer precipitation reporters.  If you'd like to help, and send us your precipitation reports, check out the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail, and Snow network, and join today!
