Rainfall Amounts and Flooding Reports from Wednesday

A stalled frontal boundary and very strong mid and upper level support combined with ample amounts of gulf moisture to create heavy rainfall on Wednesday. Some very impressive rainfall totals were observed in the Cumberland Plateau region of south central Kentucky and all along the Tennessee border as repeated heavy rain showers and thunderstorms moved over the area. Several flash flooding reports were received along with sizeable rainfall totals from cooperative observers, trained spotters, and Kentucky Mesonet observations. Listed below is a list of rainfall totals across the region. Notice the sharp gradient from areas that received heavy rainfall versus the areas that did not.
