A rapidly strengthening low pressure system moved northeast across central Kentucky Tuesday afternoon and evening. The center of the low passed over Bowling Green around 2 PM EST...then passed between Lexington and Louisville around 5 PM EST. As the low passed to the north, a strong pressure gradient developed on the south side of the low aided in part by clearing skies. Peak winds were highest across the Bluegrass with 61mph reported in Nicholas County at the Kentucky Mesonet site 5 miles SW of Carlisle at 5:50 pm EST. The low continued to race northeast into central Ohio, but by late evening winds had diminished across Kentucky. Below is map of the peak wind gusts from around the area.
