Red Flag Warning In Effect

...RED FLAG WARNING THROUGH THIS EVENING...

A STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM OVER THE EASTERN GREAT PLAINS WILL MOVE TOWARD THE LOWER GREAT LAKES TODAY WITH A VERY STRONG PRESSURE GRADIENT DEVELOPING OVER THE OHIO VALLEY. SURFACE WINDS WILL INCREASE OUT OF THE SOUTH TO BETWEEN 20 AND 30 MPH WITH GUSTS BETWEEN 40 AND 50 MPH THIS AFTERNOON. ALTHOUGH HIGHER DEW POINTS WILL BEGIN TO MOVE INTO THE REGION LATER THIS AFTERNOON...RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES WILL STILL BE ABLE TO DROP TO AROUND 30 PERCENT IN MANY LOCATIONS THIS AFTERNOON. THE COMBINED STRONG WINDS...LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITIES AND DRYING 10 HOUR FUELS WILL CREATE HAZARDOUS FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS. A RED FLAG WARNING MEANS THAT CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EITHER OCCURRING NOW...OR WILL SHORTLY. A COMBINATION OF STRONG WINDS...LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY...AND WARM TEMPERATURES WILL CREATE EXPLOSIVE FIRE GROWTH POTENTIAL.
