24-Hour Precipitation Totals - Thursday, May 26th, 2011

The bulk of the rain that fell across central Kentucky and south-central Indiana occurred during the overnight hours from Wednesday, May 25th into Thursday, May 26th. However, this map shows total amounts of precipitation that has fallen within a 24-hour period ending at 7am on Thursday. Areas with the highest rainfall totals experienced a bit of what's called training - locations that saw fairly heavy amounts of rain repeated within a short time frame due to the thunderstorms that moved across the Ohio Valley. All of the severe weather and heavy rain experienced overnight was as a result of an upper-level low pressure system tracking eastward.
