Tuesday Night Storms Bring Excessive Lightning To Region

Storms on Tuesday evening in central Kentucky and southern Indiana brought strong winds and rain to the area.  There have been reports of trees down, but the real story was the excessive lightning.  Lightning strikes were frequent, with more than 1800 cloud-to-ground strikes in one fifteen minute period!  This lightning caused several power outages and temporarily shut down multiple technologies across the region.  Below is an animated loop of lightning strikes during the storms on the night of July 19, 2011.
