Air Quality Alert for Louisville Metro

An Air Quality Alert has been declared for the Louisville metro area for Sunday May 20, 2012.  The Air Quality Index (AQI) is expected to be in the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups range. The AQI is expected to reach 104 for ozone.

Sensitive groups include children, older adults, active adults and anyone with heart and/or lung ailments.

 Forecast:
 Sunday, May 20: 104 AQI Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups  Ozone
 Monday, May 21: 80 AQI Moderate  Particle Pollution (2.5 microns)

  Surface and upper air conditions will be very favorable for increases ozone and PM2.5 over the weekend.  Ozone and PM2.5 is expected to build into the moderate range in all areasas a ridge sets up over the eastern U.S.  This ridge remains in place for most of the weekend, setting up the potential for higher ozone and PM2.5 values.  The next front could impact the area by Monday but this will depend on the strength of this ridge.
