April 16th Large Hail Event

A moist and unstable airmass developed along a nearly stationary frontal boundary on Tuesday April 16th, allowing for isolated to scattered thunderstorms, some of which became severe. A few of the storms became supercellurlar in nature and produced hail as big as golfball to baseball size. Below is a radar image depicting two of the strongest storms, one over Paoli in Orange County Indiana, and one over east Louisville in Jefferson County. Notice the higher reflectivities in these two cells, indicating hail. This image is from around 850 PM EDT. Also below is a summary of all of the hail reports received by the National Weather Service office so far.
