A slow moving cold front will bring widespread soaking rains to the region Tonight through Thursday. Thursday night and Friday rains, possibly heavy, will continue over south central Kentucky while cold air sweeps in to southern Indiana and north central Kentucky and creates a wintry mix that will spread from along and north of the Ohio River overnight across all but far southern and eastern Kentucky Friday. Finally Friday night cold air will invade the entire region, turning everything over to a light wintry mix or snow. Another wave of precipitation will arrive on Sunday bringing more wintry weather to the Ohio Valley.
It will be important to follow the latest forecast developments with this complex system. Initially the main threat will be minor flooding in low lying areas that collect water easily, especially in the Bowling Green and Lake Cumberland regions Thursday night and Friday. Then attention will turn to a wintry mix in southern Indiana and north central Kentucky Thursday night and Friday, and a light wintry mix or snow everywhere Friday into Friday night with some minor accumulations possible.
Here is the total expected liquid equivalent precipitation for the next seven days starting from 7 AM EST this morning:
