December 21, 2013 Barren County Straight Line Winds

Path Width: Sporadic wind damage 200 yards wide
Sporadic straight line wind damage occurred around Cave City on the night of the 21st along a severe squall line that pushed through northern Barren County. Several businesses had large signs blown down and or damaged including the Super 8 sign which was over 60 feet tall. Several trees and large limbs were blown down in Cave City along with power lines. There was structural damage to a grocery store along ith roof damage to several businesses in Cave City. These fell on several parked vehicles causing further damage. There was also wind damage along US 31W north of Cave City, including Alvey`s Towing Recovery.
All of the damage was facing in a north northeasterly direction and many witnesses reported a 3 minute period of torrential rainfall just past 930 pm with winds blowing so hard they could not open any outside door.
