Old Man Winter will return to the Ohio Valley this weekend, and stick around into early next week. A storm system taking shape off the west coast of Canada will bring the potential for accumulating snows on Sunday, followed by the coldest air in several years for Monday and Tuesday.
It's still too early to tell how much snow will fall and where, but the best chance for significant snow on Sunday will be over southern Indiana. On the other hand, the strong Arctic high that will build in Monday and Tuesday gives much higher confidence in the bitterly cold temperature forecast. Many locations will see sub-zero temperatures early Tuesday morning, with wind chills approaching 25 below zero.
Exactly how cold we get Monday and Tuesday will depend on how much snow falls on Sunday. But we don't need a snow pack to get below zero.
