Accumulating Snowfall Nearly Every Other Day in Winter 2013-2014

 

PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CHICAGO IL 736 PM CST MON FEB 10 2014 /836 PM EST MON FEB 10 2014/  ...SNOWFALL NEARLY EVERY OTHER DAY THIS WINTER...  THIS WINTER HAS SEEN SNOWFALL WITH ASTONISHING REGULARITY ACROSS NORTHERN ILLINOIS AND NORTHWEST INDIANA. HERE ARE SOME NUMBERS ON ACCUMULATING SNOWFALL DAYS...WHICH MEANS AT LEAST ONE TENTH OF AN INCH OF NEW SNOWFALL.  ------------------------------------------------------------------ CHICAGO  THERE HAVE BEEN 32 DAYS WITH ACCUMULATING SNOWFALL THIS METEOROLOGICAL WINTER (DECEMBER-FEBRUARY) THROUGH FEBRUARY 10TH. THAT IS 45 PERCENT OF THE DAYS WITH ACCUMULATING SNOWFALL THUS FAR. THERE WAS EVEN A SEVEN WEEK STRETCH FROM DECEMBER 8TH-JANUARY 26TH WHEN ACCUMULATING SNOW OCCURRED ON OVER HALF THE DAYS...SOMETHING THAT HAD ONLY HAPPENED FOUR OTHER TIMES IN RECORDED CHICAGO HISTORY (SINCE 1884). THAT IS JUST SHY OF 50 PERCENT OF THE DAYS WITH ACCUMULATING SNOWFALL THUS FAR. THERE WAS EVEN A SEVEN WEEK STRETCH FROM DECEMBER 8TH-JANUARY 26TH WHEN ACCUMULATING SNOW OCCURRED ON OVER HALF THE DAYS...SOMETHING THAT HAD ONLY HAPPENED ONE OTHER TIME IN RECORDED ROCKFORD HISTORY (SINCE 1905).
