...A LOOK BACK AT THE CLIMATE FOR THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY 2014 FOR
CHICAGO AND ROCKFORD...

FOR CHICAGO...THE AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS 25.7 DEGREES WHICH IS
9.6 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. THE AVERAGE LOW TEMPERATURE WAS 8.9
DEGREES WHICH IS 11.2 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE
FOR THE MONTH WAS 17.3 DEGREES WHICH IS 10.4 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL.
2.48 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION WAS RECORDED DURING THE MONTH
WHICH IS ONLY 0.69 OF AN INCH ABOVE NORMAL. 19.5 INCHES OF SNOW FELL
DURING THE MONTH WHICH IS 10.4 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL.

ONE RECORD WAS SET AT CHICAGO-OHARE DURING THE MONTH FEBRUARY 2014.
ON FEBRUARY 20 WHEN 1.16 INCHES OF RAIN FELL WHICH BROKE THE OLD
RECORD OF 0.95 INCHES SET IN 1891.

THE AVERAGE MONTHLY TEMPERATURE FOR FEBRUARY OF 17.3 RANKS AS THE
NINTH COLDEST FEBRUARY SINCE 1871. THE SNOWFALL OF 19.5 INCHES FOR
THE MONTH IS TIED FOR 12TH SNOWIEST SINCE 1885.

FOR ROCKFORD...THE AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS 22.0 DEGREES WHICH
IS 12.2 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. THE AVERAGE LOW TEMPERATURE WAS 2.8
DEGREES WHICH IS 14.9 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. THE AVERAGE
TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH WAS 12.4 DEGREES WHICH IS 13.5 DEGREES
BELOW NORMAL. 1.76 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION WAS RECORDED WHICH IS
0.35 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL. 13.5 INCHES OF SNOW FELL DURING THE MONTH
WHICH IS 5.8 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL.

TWO RECORDS WERE SET AT ROCKFORD DURING THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY 2014.
THE FIRST RECORD ON FEBRUARY 11 THE LOW TEMPERATURE WAS -21 WHICH
BROKE THE OLD RECORD OF -12 SET IN 1981. THE SECOND RECORD ON
FEBRUARY 27 A LOW MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE OF 15 DEGREES WAS SET WHICH
BROKE THE OLD RECORD OF 18 SET IN 1912. IT WAS ALSO THE COLDEST HIGH
TEMPERATURE IN THE LAST WEEK OF FEBRUARY OR LATER SINCE 11 DEGREES
ON MARCH 9 2003.

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR FEBRUARY OF 12.4 DEGREES RANKS AS THE
THIRD COLDEST FEBRUARY SINCE 1906. FIRST IS 10.2 DEGREES IN 1936
WITH SECOND 12.3 DEGREES IN 1978. THE SNOWFALL OF 13.5 INCHES FOR
THE MONTH IS TIED FOR 14TH SNOWIEST SINCE 1906.
