October 2007 Climate Review

Here is a look back at the climate for the month of October 2007 for Chicago and Rockford.

Chicago

At Chicago, the average high temperature was 68.1 degrees which is 6.0 degrees above normal. The average low temperature was 49.9 degrees which is 7.8 degrees above normal. The average temperature for the month was 59.0 degrees which is 6.9 degrees above normal. A total of 1.69 inches of precipitation was recorded which is 1.02 inches below normal.

Two records were set for the month of October. The first was set on October 7th when the record high temperature of 87 was set. The previous record of 86 degrees was set in 1947. The second record was also set on October 7th which set the highest minimum temperature of 67 degrees. The old record was 66 set in 1914.

Rockford

At Rockford, the average high temperature was 69.1 degrees which was 7.3 degrees above normal.  The average low temperature was 47.8 degrees which is 7.7 degrees above normal. The average temperature for the month was 58.5 degrees which is 7.5 degrees above normal. Total precipitation was 1.44 inches which is 1.13 inches below normal.

Three records were set for the month of October in Rockford. The first record was set on October 6th when the highest minimum temperatures was 67 degrees. The previous record of 64 degrees was set in 1990. The second record set was on October 7th when the record high temperature of 88 degrees was tied. The old record was set in 1916.
The third record was also set on October 7th when the highest minimum temperature of 67 degrees was recorded, breaking the old record of 61 degrees set in 1997.
