...NOT ONLY HAS IT BEEN WET BUT IT HAS NOT BEEN VERY WARM EITHER...

OFFICIALLY CHICAGO HAS YET TO RECORD A HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 70
DEGREES THIS OCTOBER. IF THE REMAINDER OF THE MONTH GOES WITHOUT
THE HIGH TEMPERATURE REACHING 70 DEGREES IT WILL GO DOWN AS ONLY
THE 3RD TIME IN HISTORY (DATING BACK TO 1871) THAT CHICAGO HAS
FAILED TO HIT 70 IN OCTOBER. THE ONLY OTHER TWO YEARS THAT THIS
HAPPENED WERE 1917 AND 1885. ON AVERAGE...CHICAGO HAS ABOUT 8 DAYS
WITH HIGHS ABOVE 70 IN OCTOBER. THE MOST NUMBER OF DAYS ABOVE 70
IN OCTOBER WAS 24 BACK IN 1963.

ROCKFORD HAS HAD ONE DAY WHERE THE HIGH REACHED AT LEAST
70...WHICH WAS BACK ON THE 21ST. DATING BACK TO 1906 THE ONLY YEAR
WHERE THE HIGH FAILED TO REACH 70 IN ROCKFORD DURING OCTOBER WAS
1959. BOTH 1977 AND 1925 HAD ONLY ONE DAY WITH HIGHS AT OR ABOVE
70...WHICH IF WE FAIL TO REACH 70 THE REMAINDER OF THE MONTH IS
WHERE OCTOBER 2009 WILL END UP FOR ROCKFORD. ON AVERAGE ROCKFORD
HAS 9 OR 10 DAYS WITH HIGHS OF AT LEAST 70 IN OCTOBER. BACK IN
1963 THERE WERE 26 DAYS WITH HIGHS OF 70 OR HIGHER IN
ROCKFORD...WHICH STILL STANDS THE RECORD NUMBER OF DAYS ABOVE 70
FOR OCTOBER.

IT IS ALSO INTERESTING TO NOTE HOW FEW DAYS ABOVE 80 THERE HAVE
BEEN IN 2009. SO FAR IN CHICAGO THERE HAVE ONLY BEEN 56 DAYS WITH
HIGHS OF AT LEAST 80. DATING BACK TO 1942...WHEN THE OFFICIAL
RECORDING STATION WAS MOVED AWAY FROM THE LAKEFRONT...THE ONLY
YEAR WITH FEWER HIGHS AT OR ABOVE 80 WAS 1992 WHEN THERE WERE ONLY
53 DAYS. ON AVERAGE...CHICAGO HAS 82 DAYS PER YEAR WITH HIGHS AT
OR ABOVE 80. CHICAGO HAS ONLY REACHED 80 DEGREES ONCE BEFORE IN
NOVEMBER...SO IT IS UNLIKELY THAT THIS YEARS TOTAL WILL INCREASE
BY MUCH IF AT ALL.

IN ROCKFORD...THERE HAVE ONLY BEEN 51 DAYS WITH HIGHS AT OR ABOVE
80 DEGREES SO FAR THIS YEAR...WHICH IS LIKELY TO GO DOWN AS A
RECORD FOR THE FEWEST 80+ DAYS EVER IN A YEAR. THE PREVIOUS RECORD
FOR FEWEST 80 DEGREE DAYS DURING A YEAR WAS BACK IN 1912 WHEN
THERE WERE ONLY 58 DAYS. ON AVERAGE ROCKFORD WILL REACH 80 DEGREES
AROUND 81 TIMES PER YEAR...SO THIS YEAR WAS ABOUT ONE MONTH`S
WORTH OF DAYS BELOW WHAT IS TYPICAL.

SO FAR 2009 IS ALSO ON TRACK TO BE ONE OF THE COLDEST YEARS ON
RECORD AS WELL. HERE ARE THE RANKINGS FOR TOP TEN COLDEST YEARS TO
